Netgear Corp. is difficult.
Edward M. RileyApril 1, 2016
I bought this in hopes of getting WPA2 for my old Win98se laptop which runs some ventage software. Because it had been on the shelf at the dealers so long, I had to jump through many hoops with Netgear just to get some answers. I have not yet received any answers, but I am waiting. I expect that they will tell me that no WPA2 software exists for this or any other PCMCIA card for Win98se. I can't upgrade the OS because I have some very old utilities and games that will not run on newer OS. I will get a wired Ethernet card for the old laptop, I guess. It will limit mobility and be a pain in the butt.

If anyone has any questions about this please don't be afraid to ask me. I'd be more than happy to answer any and all of them.
Excellent external card

Very nice external card. Doesn't quite have the range of a standard integrated card, but few mainstream external cards do.

The card works out of the box with Windows XP and Ubuntu (the driver utility must be installed first on Windows).
Works great - New Driver fixed the XP blue screens

I gave this product only 4 stars because it took a while for the manufacturer to get me a driver that doesn't crash. Now that I have a decent driver I love this card.

I replaced some older wireless gear with the NetGear 108 super G stuff. The super G stuff is great. The range is better than my old 802.11 gear and the speed is awesome. My wireless router is in the basement and one of my computers is 2 floors up and I still get good speeds.

If you have one of these cards, just go to the manufacturer's web site and get the most recent driver. They have fixed the blue screen problem and now this card works great.
Never buying from Netgear again

Bought this card and it worked fine for a couple months. Then it started dropping the connection an average of every couple of minutes. I tried every fix I could find on the internet and nothing. So I tried their email support -- they gave me a bunch of standard cut-and-paste responses until they finally said they were upgrading it to a tier 2 technician, whereupon they quit talking to me (I've yet to hear back from them, despite repeated emails). So I tried calling -- they said it's a software issue and I can either go back to email support (remember: no word for over a month despite repeated emails) or I can get premium support for $32.99 for 15 minutes -- which is asinine since if I use tech support for half an hour, it'd cost me more than what I spent on the card.

If you buy this card, pray that nothing ever goes wrong with it -- if it does, you're screwed. For my part, based on this card and pretty much every experience I've had with Netgear, I'm never buying from them again.
