High priced compared to the store, but for some reason I can no longer find this flavor at the supermarkets (I can even find Lobster flavor there but not this). Add a teaspoon or so of this along with a few drops of liquid smoke to home-made split pea soup and the results are amazing. It adds great flavor without being too salty. As a result, I now have a reputation for making the best pea soup ever! So I was willing to pay extra. The jar lasts a long time - a little goes a long way.

Ever have a hankerin' for a pot of navy bean soup on a gray, gloomy day? Then you discover that having the navy beans, carrots, and onions bathed in broth isn't enough--you are missing a ham bone for extra-good flavor. A scoop of Better Than Bouillon Ham Base will remedy what ails your soup of the day. The ham base is so good that you won't actually miss the meat. We have tried many (all?) of the Better Than Bouillon flavors, and keep the chicken, beef, and ham on hand always, refrigerated after opening. Although they are bouillon, they are not overly salty like their "cube" counterparts. The clam, lobster, and mushroom bases are also quite good and add a great depth of flavor to soups, chowders, and stews.

My wife makes the best soups and the Ham Based Bouillon is her best stock for making her soups.

All of the Better than Bouillon bases are fantastic! Read a consumer's report on the chicken; beat all of the canned broths for flavor. Need to be aware of the sodium of course (when using this I normally omit any further sodium) but the flavor is there! Put a spoonful of this in with either split pea or bean soup and in the words of a famous chef, it "kicks it up a notch".

Use about 5 of their bases... hoping they will come out with a duck one!

I love this delicious ham base! I stopped using bacon grease to flavor my southern dishes and replaced it with BTB. This is my second order. Try this in your next pot of beans!
