I highly recommend this powerful little pump
SteveFebruary 18, 2018
I'm moving humidity tray water across my orchid greenhouse..about 12 feet. Truly self-priming. I've bought a few cheaper smaller pumps and nonself primed and burned out within hours. The only problem is attaching an ON-OFF switch. Come on guys for the few pennies it would cost you I would give you a 6th star. Been using it for 3 months. I highly recommend this powerful little pump and did not receive any promotional consideration..paid full price.
Not good for Aeroponic Nutrients
Oregon Landscape GuySeptember 29, 2017
While it lasted, this was a great little pump. I used it in my aeroponics system pumping nutrient fluids. It did a great job pumping the nutrients onto the roots of over a 100 plants, so the pump had plenty of pressure. After placing it in service in late December in my greenhouse aeroponics system, by late spring it had sprung leaks between the motor and the pump housing. My guess is that the nutrients were too much for it. I had planned to remove the screws and replace what I thought might be a gasket between the two pieces of plastic. Unfortunately, one of the screws stripped so I couldn't get into to it. I called Shure but they didn't do much more than refer me to another company's website the listed different plastics and the chemicals they can take. It didn't help much ... actually, at all. I was in a rush, so I went out and bought submersible pump locally to keep my roots from drying out. I had to convert my system to a drip system instead of the high pressure hydroponics. It would have been really nice for Shure Flo to at least tell me what pump would have worked for my setup.... and maybe replace the motor if it was defective. They really didn't let me know if this particular motor should have worked. I still don't know which one of their pumps will work for hydroponic nutrients. I liked the high pressure aeroponics system because the plants seem to grow a bit faster.
Quiet, Reliable Pump
J. MilsteinFebruary 26, 2017
This is a replacement of the same model pump used for household water in an off-grid setting. The previous pump lasted for many years. The pump is working against a ten foot head and produces adequate pressure and flow. It is housed with the cisterns in a separate structure; so noise is not relevant, but it's quiet. The water at the pump has frozen many times without damaging the pump, surprisingly. (This will not happen again, if I can help it.)
Threads are metric and not really self priming
Amazon CustomerJanuary 5, 2017
I bought this transfer wine. The litature says it is self priming and will pump 9 '. It worked okay at first but not now some 2 years later with about 1 hour on it. It also says it has 1/2" MPT. Not it is some metric thread. I used 1/2" FPT connectors and they always leaked slightly. Just took them of today ( 2 years later)and found the threads shot. I think this pump would work well to boost pressure; if you had the correct connections.
Great pump, but crappy connections
Danny FixitOctober 17, 2016
Got this pump to replace another pump I bought on Amazon that failed within a month. Liked this one because it is diaphragm rather than impellers. Seems well built. Surprising thing is that this pump is far quieter than the previous pump. Primes itself and moves the fluid quickly.

As many people noted, the threaded connections are technically 1/2" NPT males. However, Shurflo forms them such that they want to sell you their connectors. Standard pipe fittings tend to try to cross thread and become hard as if the thread is wrong. Caution should be used because the pump connections are molded plastic and could break off.

My final solution was to go to Tractor Supply and get suitable plastic threaded connections. These connections were still tight to get on and took much care to ensure I didn't goof up the threads. I gingerly used a wrench to put them on while holding the pump body to try to minimize the stress on it. Got them on and connected to my hose lines and all permanently mounted/wired. No leaks and running well.
