A very good knife.
Ron Lheureux•July 10, 2018
This knife is small enough to just drop in a pocket or purse. It's well built as are most all SOG knives. Initially I though that the assisted opening mechanism was simply too slow. After skightly backing off the ivot screw and putting a few drops of light oil on the poivot washers and stopped comparing the speed of deployment with my other assisted openers, I realized that this knife simply was never intended to fly out when opened. oneci came tothat acceptance, I'm very fond og this little guy. It's important to understand the the blade is incredibly sharp and holds that edge for quite some time. The knife's very thin, flat ground blade cuts through cardboard like it's butter.
The knife at the top is a 3.2" CRKT Drifter, for size comparison. That knife has been discontinued, btw.

Very Disappointed in this Knife.

I have owned 2 of the SOG twitch Xl which where both great which eventually led me to purchasing this knife.
Let me start by saying I don't have any huge issue with the construction but rather several small issues.
The first thing I noticed when I took it out of the boxes that is completely covered in oil. Not just the knife blade but the entire knife. No big deal.
I don't like pocket clips so the next thing I went to do is take the pocket clip off. I was surprised to find that both screws holding in the pocket clip we're loose enough to take out by hand. Upon further inspection the screw further up was also loose so I put a little Loctite on all three. There is that problem fixed.
I noticed that I cannot flip the blade open nearly as easy as on my SOG twitch XL (which make it better as it wears in) I took a look at the pivot led me to notice a significant amount of left to right blade play. This also made it apparent that the knife doesn't sit in between the liner but rather up against one side.
Finally, the handle scales Do not sit flush with the liner of the knife. The liner is slightly concave, enough that you can see light through the knife in between the liner and the scales.
I don't know. Maybe I got a bad one. I wasn't expecting Perfection out of a $40 knife but, I was expecting more than this.

Some Good, Some Bad
Chris W.•May 19, 2017
Some good and some bad here.
The Good:
1. Very pocketable. It's got a nice clip that rides fairly deep in the pocket, and it's small enough that it disappears in the pocket quite easily.
2. Decent steel. AUS-8 is a decent budget steel, and SOG is known for their use of it so it's well heat-treated, making it a good steel for light EDC tasks.
3. It will re-sharpen quite easily; most of the time I used it I just took it to a strop with some green compound and the edge came right back.
4. Deploys relatively quickly thanks to the spring assist mechanism.
5. Bonus points for having the secondary locking mechanism on the back-lock to stop it from accidentally deploying.
The Bad:
1. Has no washers. I was noticing some grittiness when deploying the knife even with the spring assist pushing the knife out. I tried using some Benchmade Blue Lubricant to soften the motion, which worked for about a day and then it roughened up again. I opened the knife up (which voided the warranty but I did it out of curiosity) and, to my utter shock, the knife is just rotating on steel! This has to have been a cost-saving measure by SOG, and it's a very bad one. Steel-on-steel pivoting is going to cause massive abrasion and allow rust to enter the pivot when the steel wears down enough. The only reason this knife opens quickly at all is soley because of the spring forcing it open.
2. SOG's warranty (sort of). SOG's warranty is great if you always ship the knife back to SOG for maintenance (or bring it to them if you live nearby). However, I live quite far from them, so I feel like it's not worth paying 20% of the knife's value to ship it back to them to have it fixed. While opening the knife, I lost the detent ball for the secondary lock (was completely my fault, I should have used a magnetic catch for it). I contacted SOG to see if they would ship me a replacement and that I would happily pay the cost + shipping fees to send it to me, and I was told that not only that they would not ship me the part, but that my warranty was void due to having disassembled the knife myself (even though I was able to put it back together, sans the secondary lock working). I understand that it's their warranty policy, and I disassembled at my own risk, but come on guys, at least be reasonable here.
Overall, nice knife for light EDC tasks, as long as you like spring-assist knives. Decent steel, resharpens quickly, but I'm dubious about it's longevity without being sent in to SOG regularly for maintenance.

Don't let the price fool you
Ely Age•April 26, 2017
While this knife is inexpensive, it's anything but cheap. It's not Chinese garbage like so many out there. Not American made, but obviously neither is the price.
I purchased this as a thank you gift for a gentleman I work with. He found and returned my eight+ year old Benchmade 585 Mini Barrage I lost on the shop floor. I'm incredibly impressed with the fit and finish and it came out of the package nice and sharp. The action is smooth and it locks up tight. The only gripe I have is the spring lacks the grunt to fully lock out. That's mostly due to the tension of the spine lock, which isn't a bad thing. It took all of five minutes to take about a quarter inch out of the spring and bend a new catch. Quick, easy modification, and now it opens with the same authority as my Benchmade. It's honestly not worth taking a star. Without the mod it still flipped open just fine, but I wanted it to finish completely under its own power. Personal preference I guess. I'm seriously considering one for myself for work carry. I wouldn't hesitate to EDC thus little guy.
Note: I added the Paracord lanyard; it doesn't"‹ come with the knife. The last pic is the recovered Benchmade for size comparison.

Great EDC knife, easy open, very easy open, and the blade has a lock for that reason.
Joseph M.•January 13, 2017
Very nice EDC. It has a lock to keep the blade from opening when it should not. It is made very well, and the assist open is fast, and effortless to operate. I have other knives that takes practice to flip open, but this one only needs a nudge and it comes flying open, hence, that is why the blade has a locking feature. It open so easily, you may not want to risk it opening in your pocket. i do not see anything about the knife that I do not like.
