add chemicals into your tank like dechlorinator and then refill
David Schmidt•August 28, 2017
Why haven't I had this since day one of fish keeping. Build your own python with a long water grade hose from a hardware store for a fraction of the price. Makes water changes a breeze. Attach the hose to the faucet drain your tank then switch the valve, add chemicals into your tank like dechlorinator and then refill. Seriously. Get this now and save yourself the headache
Used it to replace my Aqueon pump
H. Marie Picard•May 23, 2017
I had purchased an Aqueon water changer and the pump cracked and broke after 2 months use. After reading reviews about that particular brand keep doing that, I decided to spend a couple dollars more for this based on the great reviews. So far it works great. If any small pieces of sand or gravel gets sucked through, it grinds in the part that you turn to make the water flow through or out of so have to work around that a little bit.
But, it fit the faucet adapter from my previous Aqueon changer. I got the female connector and was able to use the hose and siphon from the remaining Aqueon parts.
I think this will last much longer.

Python Parts Not Interchangeable?

Apparently, Python makes two sizes of these, but doesn't say this anywhere. The green unit components mostly fit only on the green unit. There is a dark, charcoal colored unit, also made by Python and largely identical in design and function, with components that even look identical but don't fit the green unit, and vice versa. I tried to replace a cracked adapter piece on the dark colored unit that I have. I needed to piece that connects the long hose to the piece in this review that connects to the faucet. The threaded piece was of a different size and wouldn't fit. I ended up having to also buy this green faucet adapter and rebuilding my unit. Very unhappy that Python cannot standardize this simple unit but instead chooses to confuse the market and industry with different sizes, for no apparent reason.
could be improved

I like to leave this on my utility sink all the time so I can do frequent tank cleanings. It is very helpful.
I got this to replace a previous identical one which broke because the plastic is fairly brittle.
Unfortunately the water splatters a lot, and if you leave it on all the time like I do, it makes the sink less effective.

Replacement for my 20yo python. Hard to complain after using the original one so long before it broke.
