IF YOU'RE TRYING TO KENNEL TRAIN, THIS IS A MUST-HAVE!!!!!! WONDERFUL!

We watched a video last night on puppy training. Let me preface this by saying, we've had about 30 dogs & just as many cats our 35 years of marriage. However, at our age, we just can't stand watching our dogs pass away. We've always adopted older dogs to give them a good quality and love filled end of life, but the grief is just too difficult to handle anymore. So my husband said our last dog will be a puppy that we will have for many years. He comes home with a 45 pound 6 month old puppy! Now, he does all the walking and training and such. We watched a video that made the most sense out of all of them, found out he's rated in the high to 50 in the States, and decided to follow his advice. He said, to teach them to eat at a certain time, like when we eat, b/c we're kennel training, the best thing to do is moisten their dog food, when it's a mush, put it into this toy & freeze it. Then, when you're having your dinner or have to leave the house to work or whatever, take one put some peanut butter on the end, and put it in the kennel with them. It meets their need to chew, they get feed their portion (you should divide how much they eat into 2,3, or 4 portions) and these with that mixture I mentioned earlier. They are content in their kennel, they love the chewing on them, but are slowly being feed their portion of dog food as an extra plus! We just started it and it worked beautifully. Bought 2 to begin with, and will be ordering 2 more. Always have at least 1 extra in the freezer in case company comes and you need to put them in their kennel for a bit. Excellent product. My son has had the same exact Kong for 4 years now, and he has a Golden Retriever!
It's a good investment. Buy multiple Kongs. Fill with moist dog food and freeze. Perfect way to keep active chewers busy!

Well, my adolescent dog is finally old enough that he can destroy most dog toys out there. People rave about Kongs for good reason! He doesn't seem to be able to chew through these toys, thank goodness! We're a busy family, so I use these Kong Extremes to keep him busy and out of my hair. I mix approx half a can of wet dog food with water to make a soupy concoction. Then I mix in some dry kibble and fill the kong with this moistened, extra tasty dog food. Then I freeze it. A frozen filled Kong will keep my dog (approx 60 lbs) busy for at least an hour. I've learned not to let the dry kibble sit in liquid too long. If it's too mushy, it packs down too much and it's harder for him to get out the food stuffed into the "top" of the kong (it also is harder to clean). If the food is moist when frozen, but not mushy, he is able to dislodge it by picking up the kong and dropping it. It takes a while because the food is frozen and sticks together, but it's not impossible for him. It's not a bad idea to buy a size larger than recommended for your dog, they probably can handle it and it will keep the busy longer.
Other tips:
I purchased multiple Kongs so that I can do the filling and freezing in bulk. It's an investment, but it's been better than burning through toys that are ripped to shreds.
A long handled bottle cleaning brush helps to scrape the leftover junk in the top of the Kong. It also helps to soak the entire Kong in water so the old food isn't caked on
Possible Fake. Split in half after a couple uses.

Along with the other 1-star reviewers, this KONG is garbage. I bought a larger red Kong from a local store and lasts my "brass teeth" lab months. This Kong didn't even last 10 uses! Either the "Extreme" Kongs are poor design OR these (like many other things on Amazon) are knockoffs that nobody caught yet. I'm tempted to buy this exact one on the local store to rule out fraudulent Amazon purchase.

Amazon Customer Service, coming from someone that relies solely on you for many of my purchases, it is important to trust you. Please do an audit (not only the Kong) and get rid of the fakes!
Stands up to my 200 pound doggy
Things That Make You Go Hmm...✓ Verified PurchaseAugust 20, 2016
I bought this to replace the red Kong that I am pretty sure got stolen from my yard. The price is good for the large, long lasting durability of this product. Large dog toys are very expensive and it can be hard to find toys large enough and durable enough for giant breed dogs. I got the Extreme version because I have a 200 pound Newfoundland who is not really a chewer, but after a while can easily wear out any toys that his mouth goes near. He loves to be outdoors so he spends as much time outside as he does with us, but when he gets bored he likes to dig holes, so I needed something to help keep him occupied. I like to put peanut butter in this Kong toy and freeze it over night. It gives him a snack and some entertainment at the same time. We have also put treats in it too, but the peanut butter seems to be the favorite.
Got a pit bull? This might be life changing for you!

We have a 80+ lb pit bull and this is the first toy that has EVER stood a chance! We still marvel a few times a week that it has lasted a month. Our polu girl will rip a brand new tennis ball to shred in 10 seconds flat. Football? Give her 20...she'll husk an extra large coconut in less than 10 minutes. you get the point. No object prevails once she has decided to destroy it! Except for the XL Kong! Granted we don't let her just chew on it all day (we have to put it out of sights hen not playing as she will not leave us alone if she can see it) but this has lasted dozens of fetch sessions for us so far. The best thing about this toy is the bounce capability. You chuck this baby and it will bounce for about 100 yards no problem. This makes it easy for me to throw and polu gets to run farther to fetch. She's not too keen on working any treat stuffing out of it like my Doxie loves too but I think that's a breed thing. She just has always found pleasure in ripping her toys to shreds. To be honest we have noticed her reaction to the toy being so strong...she looks bewildered when chewing it! Haha. The ONLY minor downside to this toy is that it does not float. We take her swimming at the beach and her favorite passtime is fetching toys in the water. If the Kong floated I would buy a dozen on the spot!
