So my girlfriends BoxerBull HATES having his nails clipped. He freaks out no matter how hard we try to make it a positive experience. He simply hates the feeling of his very large nails being cut. His nails are pretty big and his old nail clippers caused them to splinter some times due to this. After seeing how quickly our vet could clip his nails with similar clippers to these we decided to buy a pair.

Don't get me wrong, he still fusses up a storm and kicks me in the face but now it is actually possible to clip all of his nails in one go. We don't have to pay for them to be clipped anymore which will save us a good deal since his nails have become over grown. We were even thinking of opting to pay the several hundred dollars for the procedure to cut them back down.

I don't believe we will need to be doing that anymore. These are sharp , safe and easy to use. It has a guard on the back so that we aren't afraid of cutting to much and getting his wick. Which was for us a big fear since he always pulls his legs and causes us to missfire. They also don't require nearly as much hand strength or force that our old ones needed. Which causes us to have to take multiple breaks.

His nails haven't splintered yet since we started using these and the clips are neat and clean. I didn't know what to expect at this price point but these are absolutely fantastic. I won't completely dread having to spend half an hour sweating and fighting my dog to get half his nails clipped.

I am extremely glad I bought these. They work great on puppies too. All around great product.

I have 4 large breed dogs and these are the best for taking care of them! I have gone through so many clippers that promise to make nail clipping easy and safe! Not the case until I found these! I have had such great luck with these! My pups are so happy and eager for nail clippings with these handy tools! Great purchase!! I highly recommend!

We have seven (7) dogs - 4 Shih-Poos, 1 German Shepherd, 1 GS-Cross and last but not least, a rambunctious mutt. It should be pretty easy to imagine that nail-clipping time is quite a production. The Shih-Poos live indoors and despite spending a substantial amount of time scooting around the yard, their nails grow alarmingly fast, are unusually thick and will quickly curl back and become embedded in the toe pads if not cut regularly. The large dogs are no different. Their nails are almost all dark, which makes it difficult to gauge the quick. Previous clippers (of the same type )we have had were flimsy and would occasionally flex and spread, not cutting cleanly, applying too much pressure to the nail and causing the dogs discomfort.
This product is high-quality and robust. Each side of the cutter blade is 1/8th-inch thick stainless steel, held together by a locking bolt/nut. There is a nail-length guard to help avoid cutting into the quick (usually quite painful to the dog and may bleed quite freely). Ensure to use this guard and cut long nails in stages rather than attempting make one deep cut. There is a 2-stage locking mechanism that keeps the blades together when not in use. The handles are thick, sturdy plastic, lined with a rubber grip on the outer edges, which makes it comfortable to work with and prevents it slipping. There is a sturdy return spring between the handles.
Our very first nail-clipping 'production' was a 'breeze', as the clipper cleanly, quickly and painlessly dipatched even the notoriously difficult nails - the dog people out there will know that most dogs have a few of those really troublesome nails. It was incredible how quickly it was all over, without a yelp or whimper, and the cuts were clean and neat. Note that this is the 'large' nail trimmer, but it worked equally well for the smaller Shih-Poos.
Summary: Could not find a fault. This is a proper nail trimmer. Do not hesitate to get this from Coastal Pet Products - the shipping and packaging was on point. Your dogs will begin to love you BECAUSE of the care you give them instead of loving you IN SPITE of it ;-).

I have only one negative point: holding the clippers pointing towards the end of the dog's nails from underneath is a bit challenging. It's tough to describe, but imagine flipping a Corgi on his back and going in for the back paws by leaning over his body a bit. It's tough to cut that direction because of the guard and the positioning. It seems to get too close to the actual paw pad. Works fine cutting downward though. Just pointing that out for anyone who cuts their pup's nails with the dog's head towards yourself and the body away.

Other than that minor quibble of mine (not docking stars because of it since it's just a personal preference), this is a great deal. I paid around $18 for my last pair from Petsmart, and it was cheaply made. This is the real deal. The grip is fantastic and prevents slipping. I don't use the guard, since it causes more bleeding issues than not. I cut my pup's nails typically once every 2 weeks, so they are not long enough to use the guard without hitting the quick.

I also think these may be a bit too large for my Corgi, but the other size is surely too small... what to do? But I make do. They cut very well, though they have a bit of a noisy click that can startle a pup that is not used to being home clipped. I have a Corgi, and they are notorious for being overly sensitive with their paws. I cannot have the groomer clip his nails because he tries to kill them and chew their hand off. Yet at home, with these clippers he is cool as a cucumber. I tried the Pedi-Paws and that was a surefire NO. The Pedi-paws just tended to freak him out more than anything.

So I heartily recommend these clippers. Just be sure to use your sight and judgement more than the guard. You can see the quick growing through the nail in good light, so just don't cut that far down. If you're worried about your pup jerking, then use the guard, just be sure not to cut all the way as low as the guard indicates if it would cut the quick. I recommend having styptic powder nearby just in case.

So basically, if you know what you're doing, these are great. If you're not sure how to cut your dog's nails, then please ask a friend or the vet to show you first.

Hard to figure out how to open with safety latch. Otherwise it cuts my big lab nails great ðŸ‘
