I love these guys
Peter SwansonNovember 13, 2016
Very slick little utility amp. I built two for fill-in sound in the choir loft of our church. I run them on wall-glob 9 v. DC pwr. supplies. I've bought a couple more to build a simple stereo amplifier.
Audio quality is really clean, and these puppies crank out a lot of clean, undistorted sound. Fellow Broadcast Engineers might find these especially handy as cue amplifiers, or for driving monitor speakers in office areas or small production studios. I love these guys...
Works Great, Took me about half an hour to build...

Took me about half an hour to build, but I have been building kits since I was a kid. I can see a problem area if you don't have a Multimeter for the resistors. They give you a chart, but it doesn't cover Gold bands in the middle, but meter read them, although tolerance was a bit off, but process of elimination confirmed the one in question. I had a blown 1W audio IC chip in a radio, the volume control was before the input, rather than wait a week or more for a chip I got this in 2 days with Prime. I used the 10.5 Volt Vcc to the blown chip and it worked 100% perfect! I was worried it would be to powerfull, but it's just the same, may have a little extra headroom to turn it up with less distortion. In my case this was for a MFJ-9406 6M Ham radio, and it also lowered the tone on the SSB hiss a added benefit in my case. I give it 3-4 Stars for the Resistor issue, and 5 for being a cool simple little kit... Photo shows it installed in right back of radio...
But I had a soldering iron and had a fun learning experience doing so

I didn't realize this amp was in pieces and had to be soldered together. But I had a soldering iron and had a fun learning experience doing so. It works great for what I'm using it for as well.
Very nice mono kit amp for a practice amp.

Easy to solder together, and sounds great through an 8 ohm - 8" speaker. Wide range of useable voltage for power supplies. Not the cleanest amp out there, but that's what makes it sound good.
Great little kit and lots of sound power

This is a fun little Velleman kit. I used it to amplify the output from an electronic keyer for practicing CW. I ran the output into a 4 ohm speaker so I have more than enough volume even when powered by a 9 V battery. I may have to swap out the 50 k-ohm variable resister for another type to control the volume better. The Velleman kit was complete, the quality was excellent, and the instructions were clear. I will definitely shop for Velleman kits again.
