A big and heavy precision instrument
J. Rowe•April 25, 2017
I use this for checking my jointer, and it does exactly what it's supposed to do. I stalled on buying this for a long time on account of the price, and I felt I could get by with a woodpecker straight edge. I could, but this is so much easier. It's the correct tool for the job. Unlike"‹ the woodpecker, it stands on edge, and of course it works with feeler gauges.
It is extremely heavy and the edges are uncomfortably sharp. This is all by design, of course, but it is not something you just grab one-handed.
All in all a terrific investment.

I put off buying this for a while, but it gets used daily. Having a long straightedge you can trust is worth every penny. It gets shipped on a piece of pine that has been milled flat that I use to store it. A tool you can have a lot of confidence in. Just be very careful with it.
Five Stars

Straight!
This is a quality tool from Starrett. I use it to set up my jointer and it works great.
It did come in a cardboard box with a wood support which I still use to store it. Maybe someday I will make a better storage box...
