point smashed flat on the first strike. Like it wasnt even case hardened. Very disappointing for a starret product.

Good punch, made in USA
Still Pointy after two years :)

Works well on 304 stainless steel. I've used it a few times a week for two years. Still has the point. I didn't like the smaller Starrett punches as much.
I think I got a dud

This is the first time I've ever used anything with the Starrett name on it and not been impressed. I bought a center punch to mark out holes on 1/4" mild steel, but the first time I used it the tip flattened out like aluminum (literally three light/medium blows from a 32oz ball peen hammer... Not like I was wailing on it). I tried re-grinding it and had the same result the second time. So up side, I have a very stylish drift pin; down side, I still need a good center punch.

Used this effectively to loosen bolts on a couple of cars. One bolt was hard to get to and still wouldn't budge after removing a bunch of stuff to give room to get in there. I spent a lot of time trying to get it, even with decent penetrating oil. This center punch ended up being the answer. The other was a huge mounting bolt on a control arm. Worked again. This is heavy, durable, and precise. If you use a center punch to loosen a fastener, you might consider replacing the fastener, which is normal..
