Works on rubber mats in the barn aisle
PA Farmer•November 20, 2017
So far, this works great on a rubber matted barn aisle. The aisle was a pain to sweep with a push broom and the black rubber mats show a lot of dust. This tool takes less time to use, is more ergonomically friendly, and does a better job of cleaning up fine dust while also handling some larger debris like straw. It is important to have the height set right. It works best to make one pass of the aisle on the high height setting and then a second pass on the medium setting. I love that this is quiet and doesn't kick up as much dust as a leaf blower. Time will tell if the SpinSweep Pro holds up to daily use over time, but after a couple weeks of use, I'm happy!
New Generation Of This Product Is Worthless
Amazon Customer•June 14, 2017
I had the same model that I purchased and used for about 12 years. It worked great. So I purchased a replacement. It looked exactly the same as my older one. Oh but what a difference in performance. The brushes stopped spinning at numerous points and would only spin at the highest setting. I don't know what changes they made to this generation of product, but they should have left well enough alone. Totally went from a great product to a useless one. I returned it.
I LOVE my sweeper!
Manuel Villalpando•April 30, 2015
This is one of the best products that I have ever purchased! Seriously, it is! I own a home that has cement almost all around. I front of my home I have a few trees that shed many leaved and acorns. In the past I used to use almost on a daily basis a pressure connection on my water hose to get rid of all the debris that fell from the trees, collect the trash in a specific area, but this would end up costing me in the water bill. Also, being in CA and now the Politicians getting crazy about water consumption, when if fact it's not the residents that do most of the water consumption but the big businesses in CA (anyways, that's another story), I ended up opting in to buying this unit. At first I was skeptical about its design and use. I mean after all the unit doesn't use no batteries and it could easily be fooled for a kids toy. The day came when it arrived. The packaging was a bit banged up, probably from the delivery company, but when I pulled out the pieces of the unit everything was fine upon inspection. The assembly was simple and easy, I truly believe that anyone that can read is capable of putting the handle in place...because that's all that's required. The moment of truth came when I took it outside to see what it could do. I was impressed that this unit not only picked up the small leaves, the bigger ones too, small twigs, and all my small acorns! The only complaint is that it can't get corners well, so I use a small broom to sweep out corners if need be and then while walking around with the sweeper I can get everything. I know that some folks say not to use around wet areas but I've done so, and even picks the debris from wet areas as well! I got in to a habit of once I've completed a sweep to remove the trash compartment area of the unit and rinsing it off with my garden hose, and I'll manually remove the small debris that may have lodged in the sweeper parts. But over all this is one purchases that I am happy, happy, happy with! It has simplified my life considerably! Being a disabled combat veteran, who suffers from a bad back, I thank God that these products exist to lessen the tasks that get my back all worked up and in pain. Thank you Hoover!
Things you should know
DReviewer•November 11, 2014
I live on a heavily treed property. Our yard maintenance individuals have made it a practice to blow leaves into the ground cover. Over the years, these leaves have degraded and effectively raised the soil level to the point where sprinkler heads are lower into the ground and don't get high enough to properly water the ground cover. My solution was to maintain the solid surface areas of my property myself and pick up leaves for collection. I tried a broom but encountered two problems: It is difficult to use on the rough surfaces (brick pavers and pebbled driveway) and involves the repetitive action required for sweeping. I tried a blower/vac, but it is noisy, less precise at getting leaves where you want them, and produces a lot of dust. Additionally, it requires switching it from the blower function to the vacuum function if you want to pick up the pile you created. Using a blower vac as a vacuum only is tiresome because it only picks up a small diameter area.
Enter the SpinSweep:
In my limited experience, the SpinSweep works as well as a broom, but with far less effort. Some individuals state the SpinSweep leaves a trail down the middle and throws some debris to the sides. I have not experienced the trail unless the hopper gets too full, but I have noticed some debris can wind up on the sides. To me, this is not much different than a push broom because, on rough surfaces, it is necessary to push a broom over the same area repeatedly and with a choppy forceful motion which sometimes scatters debris. The main advantage to a push broom over the SpinSweep is you can sweep a greater area before you have to pick up what you are sweeping. With the SpinSweep, it begins to bog down once the hopper get full enough to resist the movement of the spinning brushes. It becomes a little more time consuming to have to empty the hopper before it is completely full, but it is still easier than a dust pan and broom.
A blower offers the greatest speed at cleaning, but with far less precision. Furthermore, although the SpinSweep can get noisy, it is not nearly as noisy as a blower. Picking up blown debris with the vacuum creates significantly more dust than the SpinSweep, but it does have the advantage of shredding the material you are picking up. The SpinSweep will however pick up items the blower vac's vacuum won't such as heavy nuts from trees and even small rocks.
In short here are the Pros and Cons and some recommendations regarding the SpinSweep:
Pros:
1. Easier than a broom.
2. More precise than a blower-vac.
3. Can pick up heavier items than a blower-vac's vacuum.
4. Quieter than a blower-vac.
Cons:
1. Noisier than a broom.
2. Not as precise as a broom.
3. For the most effective cleaning, you must empty the hopper before it completely fills, this makes it functionally a very small hopper.
4. Not as fast as a blower.
Recommendations:
1. I you buy this, keep in mind, it is best to empty the hopper as soon as it begins to bog down.
2. I did not use the SpinSweep to pick up smaller debris such as grass clippings, but it did pick up crushed acorns, so I suspect it will do a good job. Some reviewers suggest the SpinSweep is inadequate for clearing heavier objects and should only be used for things like grass clippings. etc. I picked up piles of acorns, ball moss, and a couple of golf-ball sized rocks with no problem. Personally, I would use a blower for things like grass clippings because it's faster and I don't mind them being blown back onto the lawn or into the ground cover. The only reason I can see for using the SpinSweep for that purpose is to avoid the noise of a blower.
3. Having used the SpinSweep, may main gripe is, for the area I am cleaning, it is not wide enough, nor does it have a big enough hopper. I would say, compared to a broom, the sweeping area is about the same as the maximum width broom you would want to use to comfortably sweep rough surfaces.
I only used the SpinSweep for a little more than an hour so I cannot comment on it's longevity. I plan to keep it unless it breaks down within Amazon's return window.
Addendum: In my original review I stated the SpinSweep is as precise as a broom, I have changed my review to reflect the following: If you want the greatest control and precision on where you want debris to end up, a broom is the most precise, the SpinSweep is second and a blower is a distant third.
I recently used the SpinSweep to pickup oak tree pollen sacs and experienced one of the complaints others have voiced: The sweeper does indeed leave a trail in the center of the path. I had not noticed this problem because I had only used it previously to pick up leaves and larger objects are not left behind. You can minimize this effect by pushing the sweeper faster, but the faster you go, the more it causes dirt to fly out to the sides. In short, the SpinSweep is more useful for larger items and not the best for fine dirt.
Recommendatons:
1) For speed, thoroughness and ease of use, a blower is best, but it sacrifices precise control.
2) For thoroughness and control, a broom is best, but it sacrifices ease of use.
3) The SpinSweep represents a compromise. It's more precise than a blower, a little easier on the arms than a broom, and unlike a broom allows you actually pick up debris without requiring bending and sweeping into a dustpan.
When I don't want to deal with the dust created by a blower, I like to alternate between a broom and the SpinSweep. Pushing the SpinSweep actually allows me to continue working while resting the muscles used for sweeping and visa versa.

Hoover personal street sweeper

I have banished the use of leaf blowers on my property! They are obnoxiously noisy and kick up so much dust that then settles all over my patio furniture, barbecue etc. I have a sport's court in my yard and several walkways that now need to be swept. This does not work on lawns, so I sweep the fallen leaves onto the sidewalk and then Hoover them up. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that part of what I sweep is from a fir tree and some of those twigs can be a bit sticky and they tend to get stuck in the wheels which is a little annoying. Other than that, it does a nice job of sweeping up leaves and debris and the best thing is that it is quiet and does not kick up a cloud of dust!
