The best crimper I have used. Even if you don't use the EZ-45 connectors.

This is a very nice crimper. It cuts the wires flush off the end of the connector in one easy crimping action. It will not let you continue squeezing once the connector is crimped. My traditional crimper would let me continue squeezing. I would occasionally bend the retaining clip or break it completely. I also had problems with the Platinum Tools 100035 EZ-RJ45 Cat5e Strain Relief. When I was using my traditional crimper. In many cases the strain relief would come loose. Once I started using this EZ-RJ45 crimper. All of my problems with the strain relief boots were gone. I have absolutely no regrets about buying this crimper.
Great tool, but the pro version is even better

I almost took a star away because the quality is less than the pro version of this tool, but the price is lower so I got what I paid for. I used the pro version if this tool at my last job, but needed to buy one for my personal use so I bought the cheaper one. It still makes great connections, but doesn't cleanly cut the excess wire off. The ends of the outer two wires hang on by a thread of insulation.

If you have a few extra bucks, I recommend getting the pro version of this tool.
Great, but may need care

This system works pretty much as advertised -- you feed the wires into the connectors, and you can make sure that they're in the right order before you crimp.

My only issue with the crimper is that I have found that I need to apply pressure slowly, or the crimper can end up mashing the end of the connector, resulting in a bad end. I actually apply a little pressure, then back off, then apply some more, then back off again, etc., until I'm applying full pressure.

Even then, the two end wires don't get cut off, but they're cut most of the way through and I can remove them easily.

I haven't noticed any other reviews that mention these issues, so maybe I have a defective unit?
Must have

I've been in the AV industry for 3 years now and this tool combined with the ez rj45 connectors is a must have. the time you save making ethernet cables is amazing. this is my 2nd one and the only reason i had to replace it was due to dropping my first pair too many times. make sure to pick up some replacement blades because once it gets dull it will not longer sheer off the wires flush with the connector thus making it hard to fully insert the rj45 into certain devices. all in all i highly recommend this product.
Excellent crimper to keep in your toolkit

This is a great little crimper, I use it in the field to terminate RJ45 all the time and have had to do RJ11 once in a blue moon - it's great to be able to do that with the same tool. Does everything I need it to without issue and stands up to being banged up in my bag. Only a couple small issues keeping this from being a 5-star review. First and worst of those being the fact that the blade often fails to cut the wires on pins 1 and 8 completely even with a properly tightened brand new blade. Even though it's usually half of the top side of the insulation, it's an annoyance to have to rip the pieces off after crimping. The clip to hold it shut when not in use can flip up when you're crimping and get in the way of the handles closing. The grips could be a little easier on your hands, especially when terminating a lot of cable - but it's nice that they're ridged so you can straighten out the wire you're about to crimp without using the back of your shears or trying to get it right with your fingers.
