Worth every penny

This filter is so much better than the generic one I got before. The water tastes so much better. I just moved to a new house and I had no idea how bad the other filter was because I just thought our water tasted bad and I was going to have to buy bottled water. I decided to try this filter out even thought it was almost double the price because if it worked better than I wouldn't have to buy any more bottled water or have to put up the the aweful taste of our water when I ran out of bottled water. It is amazing the difference in taste. There is no chlorine taste anymore and no other bad taste or smell. It just taste like nothing, just the way I like my water to taste. I used to excuse my water when I gave a glass to someone but now I don't have to, I can serve water with pride. I will never buy a cheap filter again. This is worth the money.
Genuine GE Water filter at reasonable price
Mr Home Mechanic•October 22, 2017
I used to get my GE MWF filter for my GE Artica refrigerator from Home Depot at full price every 6 months or so. I notice Amazon have better price so I order one last year and one this year. It is the same as the one I got from Home Depot and with free delivery, it cannot be beat. I would agree that the older GE MWF filter has slow water flow but the one I got this year has been good. The ice maker will only make ice if the water flow is fast enough and the water line won't freeze up. I'd stay away from the aftermarket filters offered by many vendors on Amazon, they are cheaper but I don't think they are the same quality as GE. As long as Amazon continues to offer discount, I will come back to Amazon in the future for these replacement filter.
Legitimacy and Reliability of Water Filter
Elizabeth•October 13, 2017
I bought this same GE filter in March of 2017, and ordered it again today. It has been no good,
and the water has tasted terrible. I have ordered it again today, even though I read in the reviews
that fake filters have been sent to them instead of the genuine and authentic GE filter, because it
fit my refrigerator when I ordered it before.
The water has had a bitter taste. Also, GE moved out of the country and I have no idea what kind of components
they are using in this filter. I don't like imports and I don't like to use unknown quality products. If the filter
I ordered today, which is the same GE, and supposedly a genuine and safe filter, is not legitimate,
and if the water tastes bitter, I will be filing a complaint.

I can't tell for sure how good this filter is but I am upset that it ...

I can't tell for sure how good this filter is but I am upset that it doesn't appear to be a legit GE filter. While it came in a GE box, the filter itself is 100% white with none of the labeling on the previous filters I have used for years. This includes the arrows to align with the adapter in the fridge. There was no paper instruction in the box either. For all I know it is a knock off (not that they aren't worthy) that I paid $40 for. I can get the knock offs at a significantly reduced rate via Amazon too. I will use it and see how it performs and possibly raise my rating.
Shame on GE!!!!!!!!!!

I was annoyed by this product, considering the high price. I delayed the review for a couple months because of the terrible taste of the water. As always, I ran several gallons through the filter before using but the "chemical" taste lingered for weeks. Finally, after trying to get a decent glass of water for more than two weeks, the foul taste disappeared.
I find it ridiculous that an OEM product performed so poorly and will, hereafter, use the less expensive aftermarket filters. They may or may not perform as poorly but at least they cost far less. Shame on GE!
