Mine lasted 8 years
anonymous✓ Verified PurchaseApril 11, 2017
I bought mine a long time ago, 2009. Mine finally failed at the gasket at the top, but after 8 years of light use I can't really complain, other than I wished it were a little less hard to push (though I suppose then it might leak, which mine doesn't.) I was going to just buy a new one than saw all the more recent complaints about the markings coming off. I've never had problems with that so they must have changed it or had a bad run. That's probably going to make me try the OXO version as a replacement..
Overall good...liquids leak a bit

Overall, very happy with it. However, the first time I used it for a liquid, I noticed it does leak around the rubber plunger, on both sides. This was disappointing, and the reason I'm only giving it 3 stars. Still going to be useful, but will require mop up after measuring liquids.
maybe with practice?

Looked good in theory but was a bit hard to use and clean. Saw this on a cooking show and decided to give it a try. Maybe with practice will be easier. Tried using it with cooking oil and still needed to use spatula. Washed it by hand and in dishwasher and then again by hand before the greasy feeling went away.
Markings Wash Off
MJ✓ Verified PurchaseJanuary 2, 2015
This would be great if the markings didn't wash off the FIRST time we cleaned it. The directions said to use warm, soapy water and a sponge which is exactly what I did. I used light pressure and did NOT scrub, but the sponge was black when I was finished, and there were virtually no markings left on the measuring cup. All I can figure is that I must have gotten a defective one, but I don't want to take the chance of exchanging it for another one so I just asked for a refund. What a shame.
A Good Eats fan, but not a fan of this
Nicole Kelly✓ Verified PurchaseMarch 5, 2014
I bought this because I always saw Alton Brown using them on Good Eats. So far I have had issues with mine spilling, leaking, and shooting ingredients all over the counter top. The rubber seal on the inside seems too tight so it is hard to get exact measurements especially when trying for small quantities. It's just as hard to push the ingredients out into the bowl once you're done measuring. I really wanted to like this and I'm still trying it when I have a lot of wet ingredients to measure, but so far it's a non starter.
