Overall, I'm very happy with this unit.

I recently purchased a new PC (a DELL all-in-one Inspiron 5488 running Windows 10, fully patched) that did not have a line-in jack to accommodate my turntable and DAK 2800-PC pre-amp. I have a decent collection of LP's and like to play them, so I had to go looking for another way to hook-up the turntable at a reasonable price. I was pretty much stuck using a USB pre-amp so I thought I'd get a little better quality unit than some that I'd seen. This unit claimed to provide a high quality audio signal, had some nice features and a reasonable price so I bought it.
First off, it came quickly. I ordered it on Saturday and it was at my door on Monday (thank you Prime). It was well packaged and undamaged. A small printed manual for the unit was provided but I needed a magnifying glass to read it (not kidding). A software version of the manual is provided on the installation CD.
I did not need to load drivers, Windows 10 just recognized the unit as a 'USB Audio CODEC' and was off to the races.
The pre-amp appears to be well made and shielded, that is, the unit has an all metal case that should reduce extraneous signals. A USB hookup cable is provided, but I don't know the level of quality it is. It works, so take it from there. The pre-amp has 2 inputs (phono and line) so I can have my turntable on phone and maybe an tape deck or mic on the other. You can switch between the two inputs but I don't think you can mix them. There's a filter that can be set to FLAT or LOW OUT. FLAT is like 'off' and LOW OUT filters out turntable rumble. It has a gain control that feels very solid, like the pot is made of low noise material. There's an LED that is used as a clip indicator, keeping the gain set so the LED is green most of the time works pretty easy. If you feel you need a real VU meter, hopefully your software can provide that or you may need a more expensive pre-amp.
You can plug headphones into the pre-amp (it appears to be a 3.5mm jack) and monitor either the source signal from the phono or playback the signal from the PC (CPU). You can also do both, but I can't speak to that. The headphone jack has it's on volume control.
There's a power LED, a clip detector LED, the line-in switch is lighted and the FLAT/LOW OUT filter is also lighted. The pre-amp comes with recording software (Audacity Recording Software). I already have DAK Audio Workshop and the pre-amp works with it so I have not tried out the provided software.
The pre-amp can be powered off the USB bus (they recommend using at least a USB 2.0 port because that gen of USB supplies a bit more power to the bus) but, you can also plug in a 9v 150ma AC power supply if you like. I am using a USB 3.0 port and it seems to work fine.
Overall, I'm very happy with this unit.
Untested, Appears good quality; Different Software than advertised.

Initial not-yet-used comment: Software on CD (2014) titled "ART Installation CD v.1.5" in box includes Audacity (not Soundwave Express as advertised). Paper User Manual and USB cable also in box. Shipped in ART original carton with shipping self-adhesive label stuck on top, where some text and graphics are located. Label was carefully removed with help of low-temp hair dryer. Little to no residue remained. Actual device is compact and feels sturdy.

Am in the midst of converting my vinyl LP collection into MP3 formats and this pre-amp has made that conversion a simple process. Would highly recommend this item to other audiophiles with vintage turntables that have no pre-amp capabilities.
I'm very pleased with the product

I'm very pleased with the product, it does everything it claims. I'm using it to transfer vinyl and 78's to digital. To me the variable output was a real bonus- it allows you to better adjust the volume going into your computer so as to not overload or clip the signal. This pre-amp has a built in RIAA equalization curve which is fine for most recordings post 1955. I would have preferred a way to defeat the curve for older recordings.
Another point: you'll have to buy a printer type cable to hook up to the output and send to the computer input via USB. You'd think with a product of this quality that they'd supply the cord. In terms of an AC adapter, I found that my computer supplied the power with no problem, but if you want to use the pre-amp as a stand alone, you'll need the adapter. All in all, I recommend this pre-amp.
A good way for an average person to digitze a record collection
CavebikerNovember 30, 2015
This device, plus a decent turntable and a computer, allows anyone to digitize a collection of LP's. Recording has to be done in real time, so be prepared to spend many hours, but this is a convenient way to get your records into the digital world. Digital sampling is done to your choice of quality and commonly used formats are readily available. Using a downloaded and free software program called "Audacity", allows many of the adjustments that a sound engineer would do. Scratches and pops can be removed from the recordings and data such as titles can be added, but it does require your input. Depending on the amount of effort expended, results are good, but I don't think anything is going to make a badly worn LP sound good. Still, this is an excellent way to get an entire LP collection onto an easily portable format such as an SD card or USB stick.
