Fun Norwegian Cookie Iron
Robin M Johnson✓ Verified PurchaseOctober 27, 2023
This Krumkake Cookie iron is perfect for me as I will probably only make these cookies a couple of times a year, at Christmas as a traditional cookie and possibly in July for little cones paired with homemade ice cream when the grandkids come for dinner.

My daughter and I made these together last night, and found, as other krumkake makers say, that the work goes smoother with two sets of hands. That is especially so for this electric iron which makes two cookies at once. When I set the dough on both plates and closed the lid my daughter would start the timer. After I carefully removed the cookies with a silicon spatula to two small wire cooling racks, she would wrap them around the two cones (which I purchased separately) and set them aside to cool. The cookies would harden quickly as they cooled, just before time to remove the next set of cookies. My daughter would move them to larger wire cooling racks while I removed the next two cookies and we'd start the process over.

My favorite thing about the electric iron is we were able to sit down at our working space the whole time. The old fashioned stove top Krumkake baker entails standing at the stove during the whole process, and includes the need to turn the baker over halfway through. I no longer have the stamina to stand that long as we made a double batch, and will do again. According to videos I have watched and other reviews read I learned that most people prefer the way the cookies turn out better with the traditional stove top version. So if you have plenty of stamina that might be the better option for you.

We did use the recipe included in the book for Krumkake by Cucina Pro with cardamom and vanilla. You can see in the photos provided we were experimenting with timing and the amount of dough. We have a ways to go before we perfect it, but we did find that if the cookies are just the size or a little smaller than the printed pattern, they were easier to shape into tighter cones. Also, I struggled getting the same amount of dough each time and have a few ideas to try making the amount more consistent next time. We found the less batter used , the thinner the cookie turned out, and the less time needed to reach golden brown. Some of the darker ones you see really surprised us as they cooked the same amount of time as the rest.

All in all, being a novice at Krumkake, I am not dissuaded and look forward to perfecting the process. I am very pleased with this purchase and I know we will make these cookies again.
Very happy Norwegian

This krumkake iron is a time saver! I decided to offend my ancestors and replace my ancient Nordic ware single stove top iron with one of these. I am in love with it. It makes beautiful krumkake, easy to remove the cookie and easy to clean. It doesn't come with a roller but one can use the end of a wooden spoon to shape the cookie if you don't have one.
Makes Great Waffle Cones

It's been great, so far. Have made one batch of waffle cones for ice cream. It's very simple to use, just follow directions on your waffle cone recipe. Beware: there aren't any instructions for use included in the box with the appliance. They have included plenty of warnings and some recipes. You just plug it into your electrical receptacle and it starts to heat up. There are no: on/off buttons, no settings, etc.
ONE purpose Electrical Appliance
Kelly Brown✓ Verified PurchaseSeptember 12, 2023
This item was designed to do ONE specific purpose and do it well.

It is NOT a "multipurpose" kitchen appliance. It is like a waffle iron. It makes small highly decorated Krumkake. Think of something that tastes like a fortune cookie but looks like a paper thin waffle.

So, if you absolutely positively must make Krumkake on a regular basis - then this is the item for you.

Side note: Buy a NEW one. I tried to be frugal and save a few dollars. The actual machine was pristine. The storage box however was absolutrely COVERED in masses of package tape. So much tape that I had to use a knife to cut through to just open the box. It ruined the storage box. It is not possible to use the box to store the machine in my pantry.
Love this!!

I couldn't wait to make krumkake when my cooker got in. It didn't disappoint. The krumkake are thin and crisp up very well. Much thinner than pizzelles. Heats up quickly and pretty even heat. Go ahead and buy a heat proof glove and a wooden cone form, you will need them. I make these for every party and get rave reviews.
