HOW TO KEEP ALL THE FLAVOR:
Me and my roommates found that if you drizzle in some extra virgin olive oil while cooking on the stovetop, it will preserve and lock in a ton of flavor! Much better tasting than if you skip this unwritten step. The think that flavor must evaporate with the water vs being absorbed into the olive oil which will absorb into the rice. We always cook with shrimp and andouille sausage, and turns out very good! Easy and yields a lot of food!

Do not microwave, it's not the same and well worth the extra time to make on the stove!

I find adding shrimp and/or a favorite sausage link makes the difference. The kit, as is, has a little heat and good taste; spiced well for aficionados of New Orleans style foods.
It is a great camping package, requires just water and a few minutes to prep this item and suits most folks for quick, simple, pleasurable tasting foods.

I honestly can't tell you how the flavor is because it is SO HOT you can't taste the flavor. My mouth burned for hours after eating this. I like spicy food but this is not spicy, it's just EXTREMELY HOT. If you like to TASTE what you are eating buy something else. I will NEVER buy any of Tony Chacheres products again.

I bought this mix on a visit to the south and really loved it. It is not available in my area so I am glad to find it on Amazon. A quick, easy dinner can be ready in 30-40 minutes. It is very tasty if you make it as the box suggests but,even better if before adding the mix, you add some fresh onion, celery, and green pepper and saute lightly with the meat - the jambalaya will taste like you made it from scratch. Like most packaged mixes, it is a bit salty; you probably should be cautious if you are on a low sodium diet.
