Keeps water ice free in Montana Winters

I have used these heaters through Many Montana winters. They usually last 3-5 yrs and due to GOK end up non-functional. So do all of the others I have tried. They are easy to put into the tank, work well with thermostat. They work out of water which I would rather they didn't, but have a temperature cut off. It is a major advantage to have this go through the water plug esp with young stock who may decide it is fun to pull out a floating heater or bite the cord and get electrocuted. I always keep a spare on hand.Considering the price, this heater is a very good investment.

Bought 3 of these. Tested one right away and worked. Put into service and worked about a year - that's acceptable. Went to replace with another one I bought - didn't work. Tried the last one - didn't work. I had to drive 90 miles to get replacements. I will never, NEVER buy these again from Amazon. Just think - how much is your time worth?
Frozen tank!

We bought this back in September in preparation for winter. When It finally went down to the 20s this past week, the tank froze over solid. We have had this type before. We have really liked it. I don't know if this is a dud, but it froze over several inches and now the return date has passed.

I have used the same one for years. It is great it turns it self on when the temperature of the water reaches a certain temperature and off when the water reaches the right temperature. The only thing you have to watch for is that the water is a high enough level to not expose the metal coils or so your animals cannot mess with it. I use it for about 4- 5 months straight each year with no issues. I would buy it again.
