Good quality, well made.

This is very sturdy and large. We have a family of four small squirrels living in a tree and it's highly entertaining to watch all four of them try to sit in here and feast all at the same time!!! This keeps the squirrels from having to forage on the ground and at risk of dogs and cats. This is a great way to feed them and to watch them!
It's a good quality item

Just as advertised. It's a good quality item. It took the squirrels awhile to figure it out, but they really seem to love it. I couldn't find a spot on the tree that I could reach, so I nailed it to the top of my fence & it works great.
Crafty Squirrels, untreated wood but entertaining.

I purchased this feeder for the purpose of entertainment for my cat as well as myself. I have to say that this has served its purpose but I do have some issues with the design. I am not sure if it is because I have a very crafty gray squirrel or if all squirrels are this smart. I have a gray squirrel who frequents the box and has found that he can prop food between the lid and the walls of the feeder to hold the lid up. Which really takes away from the purpose of the lid as well it takes away from the whole watching experience. I originally became used to the sound of the wood lid clunking down when a squirrel pulled food out. Which was not only a satisfying sound to hear but as well would let me know that some critter was in there enjoying the free food. The reason being is that those surfaces are flat and not angled. I will be taking this feeder to the workbench to fix this issue. My other gripe is that this feeder is not finished. For the money you would expect that the wood should be finished. Both things are easily fixed by me but my real question is why should I have to and why did the designers not think of this stuff first?
Squirrel feeder for generations

We have had a family of squirrels for 4 generations in our backyard. We would put peanuts on the fence and watch them teach their babies to eat them. We are now on the 4th generation. Mama had two babies. Her name is Peanut. I named her babies Butter and Jelly. Dad's name was Toast. We bought this feeder to provide additional food source for Winter. Babies learned real quick how to open it. There is nothing funnier than looking out to the backyard and seeing a squirrel sitting INSIDE the feeder.....in the rain. Now when its empty they make noise and stare at our back windows. Cracks us up. Feeder is doing very well. No cracks or mold. Will buy another for the front yard and the two orphaned babies who have taken up residence. I names them Coffee and Cream. Yes, I know! I need a better hobby.
Great feeder!

Great feeder! AS others have mentioned this is unfinished wood, so be aware of that. We bought this for my battalion(lol) of squirrels. There was concern after reading the other reviews that they would not be able to open the lid, but ours had no problems at all. I filled the feeder and also put some loose feed on the little ledge. They quickly adapted and after a day or so opened the lid by themselves easily. The construction is simple yet sturdy, just a few pieces of wood screwed securely together with some plexiglass. Others have mentioned that the plexiglass comes out easily - that was not the case on the item we got, the plexi is secure. however, a small staple in the top would resolve this issue. We have not noticed a problem and the feeders been outside in the Colorado weather for months and months.
