Fan works, but there's no appreciable heat output.

This worked as expected. I didn't use it very long since I sold the car shortly after I installed it, but did the job without the problems others have reported.
Works for defroster on van with no heater core...

Smells like burning toxic plastic when in use - I wonder how 'healthy' this plastic is and if it is a plastic US manufacturers could even use legally? That said, this is far from a heater... but I only bought it hoping it would defrost PART of my windshield inside since I have no heater. It does just that - it will defrost a small area on the driver's side window. It is LOUD, smells like toxic plastic, but it works for what I intended.
Great little heater for the price.

I bought this particular heater because it has the best reviews for the price. My heater in my van went out in October so I needed something to defrost my windows in the winter. This works well. Here are my recommendations. Make sure your window has been scraped of ice and snow. It will take a very long time for it to defrost any other way. Also this heater only warms up a little spot at a time. I go out about 10-15 minutes before I have to leave. I also turn on my defrost on my car although it doesn't blow hot air it helps to defrost the car. After having the heater on one spot for about 10-15 minutes it warms up the windshield enough to where I can safely drive. I can then drive and as I drive the rest defrosts quickly. I'm also not looking through a tiny hole to drive either. It's also good to have blowing on you when you drive. Its only powerful enough to warm up one person but it's better than nothing. This will not replace the heater in the car nor will it be as powerful but it works great for what it is. Also I always turn it off and unplug it when not in use. Just to be on the safe side.
