Excellent Long 1/4" Pex Water Filter / Ice Line
RoyBoy1✓ Verified PurchaseDecember 14, 2017
This Coiled Pex line is exactly what I needed to hook up a new water filter system to our new fridge. I used a good tubing cutter for precise cuts that made the job easier and leak free, using the push in quick connect fittings, I had extra Tubing so I coiled it back to a desired length for cleaning purposes, and cable tied it behind the filter assembly. Worked out great and leak free.
Overall good product but had to tweak a bit to be useful

I purchased this kit to install a in-line filter outside of my refrigerator with an ice maker, so just used the 1/4" waterline, compression sleeves and inserts as well as the 1/4" connector. The compression insert is plastic and the one I received (two of them) didn't hold the pipe inside the compression nut so it would slip out upon moving the tube... tried to tighten but just wouldn't work.
I purchased the brass insert instead at Home Depot ($1.64 with compression sleeve) and replaced with it, and that made the compression nut to hold the tube. Not sure if the plastic ones were defective or just didn't do the intended job...
Overall, a cost effective kit that supplies necessary items.
Always REMEMBER to use a new compression sleeve once you've tighten the nut, or it will leak (don't reuse) and if the water line is a plastic one, never use the copper sleeve.

First thing is many of the reviews are from older or different products as this LDR 509 5100 kit DOES NOT have all the parts attached. So you CAN easily cut it to whatever length you need. The saddle valve easily will pierce 1/2 copper without leaking and it even acts as a shutoff valve so you don't need to install a separate one. The people having the leaking and other problems are not reading the instructions as you CAN NOT use the copper pieces with the compression nut or it will leak, you MUST use the plastic pieces then it will not leak.
It did the job with about 5 other parts

I should have opted for a cheaper set with just the hose and one fitting. I had no intention of using the line tap. With Utah's hard water and the galvanized pipes in the house, it would have been clogged quickly. If they're going to make a "kit", it should include the on/off valve too. It's not complete without it. They are also skimping with the plastic parts to insert in the hose ends.
Yes you can cut it to length

The reviews for this were not encouraging and Sears said I should not use plastic tubing or a saddle tap for my icemaker water supply. But I bought this item anyway. It was very easy to connect, it didn't leak a bit, and now I'm enjoying a cold drink with ice!

Several reviews said that you can't cut this tubing to length. That is not the case for the tubing I got. It was very easy to cut, and the parts to connect it slid right on over the cut end.

One thing to be careful of is that the tubing is very easy to kink. Be careful, especially when threading it through holes -- don't pull it through, push it from the other side.
