Rolling pen for simple baking tasks

Well, this rolling pin is of a very high quality. However, it is large and heavy. It works, but I would probably not purchase it again. It's just too big and heavy for my simple cookie and pie baking needs at home. It is also large and not easily stored in my drawers or cabinets.
Beautiful rolling pin!

After breaking my 20 year old rolling pin while getting a little rough with some pizza dough I went searching for a new one. I would have preferred to get one in person so that I could see the quality and get a sense of the feel...however my state is still pretty much in lockdown so that wasn't an option. So I came to Amazon and read just about every review on every rolling pin that was within my budget. Finally deciding on this one.

It's made of gorgeous wood and I always appreciate items made in the US. My old rolling pin had steel bearings inside that helped it roll smoothly...this one has something different inside that doesn't let it roll quite as freely. But that's not a huge deal for me...it's not like I really want my rolling pin picking up a lot of speed.

And the sticker that everyone mentions...yes...it's one of the annoying kind that can rip and leave a residue and they stuck it right on the main rolling pin surface. That's stupid and they should put it somewhere else...either on the handle or on the side/end of the rolling surface. But I was able to carefully peel it off without ripping it and the small amount of residue that was left behind...I just used my finger and rubbed it until it came off. No need to use any kind of cleaner...just rub it off...it only took a couple seconds.
The kind of rolling pin my mother and grandmother used.

Updated on Jan. 1, 2021:
I have made lots of Christmas cookies using this rolling pin. It worked as expected and I am very pleased with my purchase.

Original post:
It arrived today and though I have not yet used it, I am looking forward to making my Christmas cookies with it.
I love the size of this rolling pin.
The roller itself is12" x 2-3/4".

I did read comments about the label on the roller.
I agree it is not the best place to put it.
My label came off easily and I removed the remaining adhesive with FOOD GRADE mineral oil and then immediately wiped the rest of the roller with food grade mineral oil to preserve the wood.

I found that, as others commented, the roller was not 'smooth'.
The terry cloth washcloth I used, to wipe on the food grade mineral oil, did snag on occasional very small, invisible to the eye, imperfections.
May need some 400 grit sandpaper to smooth out the snags.

All in all, I am very pleased with my purchase.
Best Rolling Pin I've ever used

I grew up with my mom's old wooden rolling pin. It was pretty big, but as I got older and more germophobic, the idea of wooden anything in the kitchen started freaking me out. When I started supplying my own kitchen, I was militantly anti-porous material, like wood. I bought a not inexpensive nonstick rolling pin, thinking, "Nonstick! Nothing will stick!" Every single time I used that rolling pin, as dough morsels but no flour stuck to it, I cursed it, and thought terrible, terrible things about it, how bad it was, and how hard and far I would like to throw it off a cliff. Finally, as Christmas approached, as I was dwelling on how much I hated and dreaded using my rolling pin, I thought back to my mom's rolling pin and how I never had problems with hers. I decided that I would finally end my irrational aversion to wood and just buy a rolling pin that works. I did some cursory research on wooden rolling pins and how much I wanted to spend on one, and I decided that this was the pin for me.

I am so glad I did! This pin flows much more smoothly than my mother's ever did, it is beautiful, feels wonderful to use, and it really performs exactly the way I was hoping it would. I saw some feedback complaining about the size and weight- the product description indicates both, and for me, I love the weight and size of this rolling pin. I'm not a giant either, I'm barely 5 feet tall, and while I might be a little stronger for my height than average (thanks, heavy toddler!), I am certainly not super buff. My mom's rolling pin was much lighter, but I used to have to use much more energy to roll dough out. Between whatever sort of bearings are in the pin and the heft of it, rolling dough out is a breeze, even with gingerbread that's been cooling in the fridge for two hours. I've been using this rolling pin now since January, and my enthusiasm for it hasn't diminished. It even cleans up easily and beautifully, my only real concern about buying it. I love this rolling pin, and my only regret about it is that I didn't buy it sooner. Whoever bought my nonstick rolling pin from Goodwill after I donated it, I'm sorry! I. Love. This. Rolling. Pin.
Nice, but the sticker is ridiculous

I took a gamble on this one because the reviews were positive about the rolling pin itself, but the sticker is sometimes on the package and sometimes on the rolling pin. Sadly, the sticker was on my rolling pin, which is why I rated it 4 instead of 5 stars. Because the barrel itself is not polished, the glue sticks to the wood something fierce. After years of reviews about the sticker, you would think the company would start doing something about it and put the darn thing on the plastic bag it comes in. Other than having to painstakingly peel the sticker off and sand the glue with fine paper, it's nice. Right thickness, good weight, rolls easily, barrel is well made.
