Good Ladder, Great Safety Features - I Recommend
J Anthony✓ Verified Purchase•August 21, 2017
First, I will note, I purchased this, but returned it today, but ONLY because it was bigger than I anticipated. I opted to order the 10.5 Xtend & Climb, also here on Amazon, so I stuck with the same maker. I have a RV trailer and will use this during our outings.
It's packed well and the directions are clear. This 12.5' is weighty at 32 lbs, but a good aspect to it is that it will hold up to 300 lbs. I always error on the side of caution. Better to have the added weight capacity if you're weight is closer to the 225 lb capacity of the smaller Type II Xtend & Climbs. Also, keep in mind, if you plan to carry any weight up it.
My friend and I extended it to the full 12.5', fairly easy enough. I found the best way to do this is start with the top rung of course. What I like about this ladder compared to other telescoping ladders is that this ladder; LOCKS AT EACH INDIVIDUAL RUNG. Thus, you have a safety feature that locks the ladder every 12". Extending was easy, and as the green locking levers slid into the locking position, I could hear a distinct "click" as each section locked. If you go the full 12.5', lowering it can be some work, but because the way the retraction works, the fear of smashing your hand goes away.
I'm going to get this out of order, but you'll get the gist. When lowering, you start from the bottom. As you unlock the slides on a rung, at times, the rung will full retract, but others, it will only 1/2 retract. This is NOT a defect. It's a safety feature. The next rung that half retracts, won't fully retract, until you retract the rung above it. This is genius as you don't pinch your hand or finger when lowering.
This fit in the back seating area of my truck easily and in the bed. There is velcro strap that encompasses the entire rungs when closed, and has a nice soft padded handle under the last rung, right where you would pick it up to carry it.
All in all, I'm impressed. My 10.5" arrived today, and I will trial it and leave a review. I recommend this ladder.

About time I got one of these

None of the big box stores carried these, much less in different lengths, so it was great being able to order here on Amazon. Working in my attic crawlspace through a 22"x32" access hatch requires getting my 6 foot step ladder from the garage, packing it up two flights, then stepping off the very top of the ladder in order to climb into the attic space. Not safe at all to utilize a ladder in this manner, so now, I can get a chair, step up and remove the drywall cutout and use this extend-a-ladder in order to climb safely up through the access point onto the ceiling joists. I no longer need to trek up and down the stairs to the garage because I can store this ladder in a closet. Another nice thing is it I need an indoor extension type ladder, this works tons better than leaning a collapsed step ladder against the wall. Makes helping someone else out a lot easier when I can store this safely inside behind the seats without fear someone will steal my ladder when in the bed of my truck.
Very pleasantly surprised!

Very pleasantly surprised! I was very concerned that this would not be good for me. I weigh just under 210 and am 6'2". Some of the reviews made me wonder if this would weave and wobble. Some even implied that it would collapse while you stand on it. It was the right height for my motorhome, but the price was lower than others with poor reviews. This was the correct height, and I could not find that height with the others. The super strong ones cost twice as much or more, so I was not ready to spend that much. Needless to say, as I carefully opened it, and found it to slide open effortlessly and safely, I started to feel better about it. Then as I climbed to the top a few times, I was amazed as how surprisingly solid it felt. Place the bottom about 3 feet out from the wall, and it is steady as you climb. You do need to be careful when collapsing it to put it away. I tells you to keep your fingers below the rung that you are collapsing, but it is easy to lose your focus. If you do, the ladder will come down on whatever is in the path of that rung. It is not that hard if you do it slowly, so slow down. If you do it right, it is a joy to use. Very easy and safe. And it fits between two large containers below the motorhome. Easy to access and return as needed.
Awesome ladder

Awesome ladder! I bought this ladder because I was tired of carrying around the heavy Little Giant ladder and to do work in the attic. Since I have sloped ceilings it would have been a pain to buy several different sized ladders to work in the attic but this one ladder covered all the bases. It is sturdy and well made until the cheap chinese alternatives that break after first use.

I love the ladder, it's heavier than I expected, however extremely well made. I am only returning because I decided that I wanted a higher ladder that wasn't too construction looking as I want the ladder to access my closet. I ordered Lenoxx Telescoping Ladder mainly because it's light weight and I like the Black & Silver frame, other than my preferences, I'd recommend this ladder, it's strong, sturdy and comes from a reputable company. I wish Xtend would make some ladders that have black brackets instead of orange. Thanks :-)
