Beware the mounts if you buy two.
GoldenJuly 10, 2017
The StrongArm stock number is 4135, I received a pair of them from Amazon and apparently StrongArm decided to change the mounts somewhere along the way, I received one of the old style mounts and one with the completely new style mounts. It really wasn't Amazon's fault as both packages were labeled 4135 and were unopened but there should be a way to weed out one or the other from existing stock, most people buy them in pairs so it'll probably happen to somebody else. BTW, I did get them both mounted and they work perfectly but having two different mounts is a pain.
its best to ask someone for help installing these
dd1217April 17, 2015
I used these on a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse GTS. (With spoiler). I've had them installed for about two months now and I have had no issues with them.

The installation can be tricky if you're working alone; its best to ask someone for help installing these. Also, twisting the head piece for proper alignment before screwing them may prove slightly difficult, but with some effort, they will turn.

All in all, they do the job.

Note: I'm not a mechanic, and this was my first installation.
Extra Strength!
Brandi JohnsonMay 1, 2014
I would just completely ignore the instructions that came with this kit. None of it applied for us. I have a 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS. The previous owners had installed a spoiler, making the trunk too heavy to stay open with the factory struts. It takes someone lifting the trunk at max height to put them it. I had my dad do them while I held the trunk and at 5'3 I had to stand on my toes for him to screw them in at the right angle. At first we had a piece of wood holding the trunk up but a human can find the right angle for install much easier. Overall my trunk works perfectly now, it pops open with ease with a turn of the key. The only issue is that the struts are extremely strong and I have to use my full body weight to close it, but that beats having to use one arm to hold it up while I load stuff in with my other arm. LOVEE this product so thank you. Like another reviewer said it does actually work with only replacing one, (we tested this) however we replaced both.
The Only Difference Was the Sticker

This product was an exact replacement of the stock OEM hatch lift supports. I read through the posts and used caution especially after reading that some people were having difficulty with removing the old ones. I sprayed the screws with w-d 40 and let is sit the night before my lifts arrived. The only actual tool you need is a torx 40 socket. Once they arrived the actual replacement took about 10 minutes. I kept the hatch propped open with a standard size shovel and carefully removed the old ones. Having a buddy spot the hatch is a good idea but once the old supports come off, it weighs more than you realize and you don't want to rush this job if your spotter is getting tired. The only difficulty I had was stripping the thread on one side since I inadvertently started screwing the new lift in at a slight angle. Once this happens, it won't screw in no matter how many times you turn or try to force it in. The threading is sensitive and the ball joint screw should turn easy without resistance about 4-6 times until you have to use your wrench. Luckily, my mechanic neighbor had a tap set, and he rethreaded the hole so that we could install with ease. My trunk now lifts with ease, stays open and makes that whoosh sound as it goes up that I missed so dearly.

Remember: Lubricate the screws the night before so that the old struts come off easy. Start with the hatch side by gently screwing in the ball joint screw a couple of times until you meet resistance then wrench it tight. Then screw in the bottom one same as the top. If done right, total job takes about 10 minutes.
Great product

Works great. I'm building my triceps to close my trunk now. My hatch shoots open once I installed 2 of these bad boyz.

Beware of you car if you want this install to go smoothly!
1. You will need a special external torque driver bit for the Eclipse. I pick on up at Napa auto parts but other automotive supply store should have it for about ~$7.
2. The nuts holding these screws are cheaply welding inside the frame, so be delicate when taking these apart. If the do break off the frame you will have to get it re-welded. This did not happen to me but I read about 15 stores on the 3g forums.

All in all great supports just be prepared for the install to avoid heart break.

Left and right use the exact same support, buy 2, this product is sold individually.

Totally worth it on those cold days.
