My roots turned out very dark, almost a blackish brown. The darkness actually went beyond my 1/2 inch virgin hair roots to cover wherever I applied it first- so I think it's more of a "hot roots" situation where the color just developed way more next to the heat of my head. I wish I had applied it to my part last (as opposed to first), as apart from the dark roots, I like the color. Perhaps my hair was too clean? I washed it the day before, and I always apply argan oil to my wavy, prone-to-frizz ends, so maybe the roots were too clean. I called the L'oreal help line and they said usually the ends take color better, so something was reversed.

I washed the roots with clarifying shampoo and baking soda about a dozen times before I gave up on any more of the color coming off and proceeded to highlights. The highlights don't really show up, even though I left it for more than the recommended time. The "medium" brown is not going anywhere.

I've loved using Loreal excellence hair color in the past, and I have loved doing my own highlights, so I thought this product was going to be great, but not so much. The end effect is not so bad that I need to go and get it fixed in a salon, but the color isn't what I was planning on at all and doesn't resemble the photo on the box.

Easier to use than expected! Colored my hair with the base. Once it was all dry again, I studied my natural waves. Understanding where the high part of each wave is, became key to doing this correctly. Think of ocean waves.. the top part is foamy white, and the underpart is shadowy deep greenish blue. So now look at your hair again. You want to highlight the tops of the waves. So I mixed the highlighter and then used the included spatula to apply the mix onto the spoolie brush. Then took little 1/4" thick clumps of hair, and isolated the spot where the tops of the waves are (on me, they start around chin length). That's where I started painting my hair.. and I did it on top of the hair clump, under it, and then made sure it was saturated through that part of the clump. and then drew it down to the ends (not thickly, just pulling the brush through) --- then, next clump of hair, same thing. I also streaked around my forehead in similar clumps, making sure to not go to close to the scalp (it looks prettier when it's an inch or two away from the scalp). I waited 20 minutes, and rinsed/conditioned. AMAZING. The color was spot on and I never thought it would be spot on. I didn't see any brassy, orange, or over-lightened spots. Just really gorgeous color!! I will buy this again and re-do every 3 months.

I have been using this product for over a year now and am always happy with the results. It looks naturally highlighted by the sun and the color turns out great every time.
I have L'Oreal Paris Couleur Experte shipped to my house every 8 weeks so that I don't even have to shop for it. Prior to this, I had to hunt around a bit to find the Toasted Coconut color that I use, so now it comes to me automatically and I don't have to worry about finding it.

Perfect... I'm a ginger and this match my beard color perfectly... The white strip is gone! I didn't use the highlight color though..

I was able to get salon results for a fraction of the cost in the comfort of my own home. I will definitely be a return customer when it's time for touch ups.
