Good for the average hiker or camper

An interesting design. Polymer handle feels sturdy enough. Shovel head is thinner than I'd like - might bend even though it's stamped for added rigidity. I wouldn't count on this to be as durable as a military issue model. Also has a real saw in the handle which I didn't realize.
Great entrenching tool

It's made by Glock, it's hardcore tough and very lite, I love it. I keep it with my Crovel Extreme III, great together! The Glock folds very compactly and is very clever in design and functionality, without compromise. I wish I could say the same about the cloth like sheath. I'm really surprised Glock didn't make the sheath out of the polymer they use in their pistols. I have purchased the Grizzly Outdoors "Glock Entrenching Tool Sheath" (with mollie,) it's pricey and takes 8 weeks (customized colors) to get, but I think it will be perfect together. Overall, very satisfied, the hidden saw in the handle is a nice touch and comes in handy, but I wouldn't rely on it for serious long term sawing, just for quick emergency use over a couple of days.
You need one

I've wanted an emergency shovel for the car for camping etc. Read a review and decided to get one. It's the bees knees! First the head of the shovel is metal and harden steel. You can beat on this all day. The handle is the same polymer they make the gun from and again strong and made to take a beating. The handle expands from about 81/2 inches to 141/2 inches. There is also a 7 inch saw hidden in the handle as you can see in the pic. This saw works. This is no toy it's a real solid tool. Wether you use this to build a fire pit, cut small branches for a shelter or fire, or as a defense weapon. This is a must have. It's light weight to care in any travel bag.
Best E-tool available.

I've had umpteen fold out shovels and the all are terrible. They work once or twice then fail, or jam and are impossible to use when your hands are already freezing and you regrettably have to retrieve your crudtastic folding E-tool from the trunk to continue to dig yourself out of snow. This one though... Is awesome (for what it is.. It's not a true shovel and you're not going to dig a hole to China). Folds out easily. Lock is positive and stable. It's not heavy at all. The handle extends to make it a semi usable length!! It's great right?! Even has a saw in the handle which I have not used, but I imaging it would work in an emergency.
I'm tossing all my old ones in favor of these. If you carry an old mil-surp deal in your trunk or bed of the pickup, throw it out right now and get this.

Good general use tool

Used once for camping. Worked fine, better than the other cheap camping shovels out there. Primarily I used it for shallow digging (latrine in the woods) and for moving fire pit coals onto/around the cast dutch oven. If your analyzing dozen's of reviews like I do, just get this one, you won't be disappointed.
Pros
Compact (folded: 10.25" long, 6.5" wide, 2" thick) 1.5 lbs / 675 grams
Sturdy
Built in saw (haven't tried yet)
Simple (kiss)
Locking joint for three shovel positions: straight, 45°, 90°
Locking handle extension
It's a glock brand (personal bias)
Cons
Composite handle- it worked fine for my hot coal tending but you probably don't want to leave it in the fire for a long time.
Foot ledge is narrow (.25"), a bit wider would be nice.
Soft case is just OK, not the same quality as the tool.
Price- I would buy it again for the quality without question.
Light to moderate use only, if your digging all day or in stone this is not the right tool.
