My entire family has had 1-2 Dohm machines in their bedroom for years now. And recently, I started researching EMF's (electromagnetic fields) and a concept known as 'dirty electricity'. My interest was peaked because the new home we moved into has solar panels and 2 different Smart Meters. Both are known for their EMF and dirty electricity production, so I was concerned our exposure may have increased.

I ordered a $40 EMF reader from Amazon, and began checking the EMF levels in and around our home. Quite by accident, I discovered that the Dohm produces far more EMF's than anything else in or around our home. To put things in perspective, the Smart Meters generated up to 250uTs, and our running microwave produced anywhere from 50 to 80uTs. The Dohm completely maxed out my reader! I believe it goes to 300uTs, so obviously the Dohm produces more than that.

And even more disturbing is that it STAYED maxed out. On the Smart Meters, the value would spike in the 200's, but then drop down and jump all over the place. But not the Dohm, it pegged the reader right away and stayed there. Even on the low setting! I realize there are differing opinions regarding the safe levels of EMF's, but this seems way too high. Especially for something that you are likely sleeping next to, for many hours at a time.

I have retired all of our Dohm machines, and will not be using them again.

I bought one of these 12 years ago, and another 4 years ago. The first one has produced a clean white noise that's helped me sleep every night for 12 years. Only recently I noticed a slight off and on humming sound that tells me the motor is wearing down. I went to grab the one we bought for my son's room (purchased 4 years ago) and realized this newer one sounded far worse! The fan makes an obnoxious rattling sound when it runs. The casing also just feels cheaper. It makes me sad when a company compromises the quality of a good product in the name of cutting costs. I am replacing our Marpac with a LectroFan digital non-looping sound machine now, because at least I don't have to worry about the motor wearing out on a digital machine.

I loved the noise maker itself. It is small and worked well for awhile. A few days ago, my daughter woke up crying and the machine was extremely hot to touch and was making a very high pitched, loud knocking noise. I tried to contact the company to notify them of this very concerning issue and Amazon instructed me to leave this review. I'm hoping others will see this and take caution.

I developed Tinnitus over five years ago. gradually I have become accustomed to it though it took quite awhile to where it didn't bother me during the day. what I never got used to was the apparent increase in volume at night when the house was quiet. sleeping was a real problem.
my wife purchased one of these for me, and while it took a day or two to get used to the noise in the bedroom afterwards I did notice quite an improvement in the time it took me to fall asleep. the masking effect was working well.
I could still hear the ringing when I first laid down, but after a few minutes it was considerably less annoying, then off to sleep. an added bonus was late at night reading is more enjoyable without disturbing the wife.
I have played around with the adjustments and have finally found the setting I fell work the best for me. it took awhile, but I feel it was a worthwhile feature.
prior to this I had tried CDs with environmental sounds, gentle rain, a babbling stream, ocean waves and more. this worked better for me.
two days ago while re arranging the bedroom my unit fell to the floor and started rattling at night. I couldn't fix it as it does not come apart.
I couldn't get a replacement fast enough. money well spent for me.

I did not even know they made a white noise machine! My dog is terrified of thunder and my husband is an extremely light sleeper. The adjustable sound is perfect; we turned it on Wednesday evening and haven't turned it off. I've looked at sound machines for years, but they have the thunder sound - go figure. If this burns out in a week from over-use, I will buy this same item again.I can now put away the floor fan that we've been running (facing the wall) until summer. This is a great find!
