Better than building a fire and smelling like smoke!

I like burning wood, but I hate paying for firewood in California. I also don't like smelling like smoke when camping and not able to shower/wash clothes. This thing is awesome. Puts out a good amount of heat and a single tank of propane lasted us most of our last 2 day camping trip when we ran it full blast both evenings. Strongly recommend.
I like the portability of this quality built fire pit.

This thing is a bargain based on the 'upscale' models sold by the same (and other) manufacturers. It comes ready to use - all you need is the propane tank. The legs fold up and it slips neatly into the heavy fabric carry tote along with the regulator/hose and the hot dog skewers. The flames can be adjusted to your liking simply by moving the lava rocks around. This can be used on the deck, at the campsite, and the HOA picnic! It's portable and easy to set up and use just about anywhere.
Low price and it shows. Only pretty good.

Nice for the price. Knocked off a star for the valve location. Would be better on the tank instead of one inch away from hot exterior.
This one is for the pool. Don't want the mess of wood/ashes on the concrete painted pool deck.
I also have a Lil red campfire for camping. The Lil Red blows this one away when it comes to flame height.
Deducted another star for that.
Good, but does't last as long as these reviews make you think

Expect about 5.5 hours from a standard 15lb Blue Rhino tank in temperatures in the high 50s and 60. When I read the reviews of this product, I was excited to get 4 days of morning and night use on full blast. In actuality, the time is a lot short than that.

Still- at 15-20 bucks for a propane exchange, swapping the tank every single day was comparable to what I would have spent on firewood. This is a great substitute for camping when there is a fire ban. Everybody at the campsite agreed it saved the trip and gave us something to gather around in the morning and evening.

Both the tank and the Camp Chef pit is very quiet. You will not need an extension hose to be happy having quiet conversation around it. Also, the hose amazon suggests you purchase has the wrong connections and doesn't fit. I'm currently in the process of returning it.
I love this campfire

I love this campfire. I use it so that I don't come home from camping trips completely smelling of smoke, or I take it into areas where no wood fires are allowed. With a 5 gallon propane tank, I get 3 or so days of full blast use. The propane lasts much longer on lower settings.

While I would never use it as a grilling surface because the included rocks would absorb all the drippings, I have been pleasantly surprised to find that it works great as a propane camp stove. Before lighting it, I will arrange the rocks so that I can place my pot on them without falling over. It puts out much, much more heat than a camp stove and will boil water and the like very quickly. I will also use it for meals wrapped in tin foil that won't drip, or for warming cans of food.

Don't expect this propane to be a perfect replacement for a wood fire in all cases though. It does not really put off enough heat to use in very cold conditions. It just does not have that bed of coals that a real fire does to throw heat. The same goes for windy conditions - it won't do much to warm people sitting around it.

I bought a separate storage bin to keep all the rocks in. I found that keeping them in the bag just made a huge mess as they move around and create dust, and the smaller ones fall out of the grill itself. This means that the grill takes up twice as much space, but to me it is worth it.
