My daughter started up violin about 2 weeks ago and I purchased a violin from amazon sight unseen. It wasn't a great violin but wasn't too bad.. But I thought it a bit heavy; and so the only parts that I can change without the need of a luthier were the strings and the tailpiece, so I purchased a tailpiece. It was easy to install and adjust; and it was 10 grams lighter than her old one and quite noticeable how much lighter it was compared to the old one; and gave the violin a bit better balance. Sonically a little bit warmer than the ebony and project was MUCH louder. This was a bit shorter than the older ebony which was out of spec long; like almost touching the bridge after you put fine tuners on them. This was good; and I suspect the distance from the rear of the bridge to the start of the tailpiece being much longer than the older one is why projection was good.. One of the cheapest upgrades you can do to a student violin that DRASTICALLY improves the sound quality and projection and balance of the violin. Highly recommended!

This went together very easily and I love the adjustability it adds to the tuning. Seems like high quality, good build quality. I've used Wittner products before and they always seem good.

I recently had to replace a tailpiece on a student violin. Most student violins are not quality violins requiring high-quality parts. I found this tailpiece to be a smart buy. The price was very reasonable; the tailpiece was easy to attach; and it was a match in quality for the violin. If you are needing a tailpiece for a student violin, I recommend this tailpiece. It would not be applicable for a high-quality 3/4 size violin, but it meets the requirements for a student violin.

Truly the best way to have tuners on a violin. Adding individual tuners on a tailpiece is bulky and can damage the top of the violin when turned too far. The Wittner tailpiece provides the proper string angle and pressure behind the bridge, thus producing the best tone possible for that instrument. I am pleased with this 3/4 size tailpiece and tail gut. I am a professional and would use this tailpiece assembly on any violin I own or refurbish for customers. It works as needed. It is reliable ad reasonably attractive - more so than a standard tailpiece with added tuning keys. The tail gut is perfect, with long threaded lengths. And the tail gut adjusting nuts are knurled for convenient finger adjustment.
I am also pleased that the shank of this tailpiece is hollowed on the underside, which conveniently allows space to hide the ends of the tail gut without trimming the ends.
The articles were packaged satisfactorily in such a way as to prevent loss of the tail gut.
Shipment was prompt.
The price and quality are acceptable.
I will buy additional violin parts from Sky/Amazon with confidence.
