Great Pen!

This is a great pen for standard Calligraphy. Really makes anything you write look quite special. (Great for addressing your Xmas cards.) These pens are difficult to find these days, so its really nice you can get them quick with Amazon prime. Don't forget to pick up a pack of the Fountain Pen Sheaffer Cartiridges. The nib in this pen is the perfect width for a variety of Calligraphy tasks. It's all good here... happy writing! ;-)
Nice set for beginner or novice.

Very nice set, quite adequate for the two aspiring calligraphers in the family. I bought these as a gift, and have used one of the pens myself working with the recipients. They are of reasonably good quality for the price and function well, like the old Skrip fountain pens did, for those who recall them. For those just starting out, a great set to start with. Writing cursive with the medium or the wide nib will improve penmanship, too (just saying, or the result will be illegible. All in all a nice starter set with enough variety to permit the budding calligrapher to find their niche without investing a fortune.
Not a good choice for true calligraphy artists

These pens are not suitable for learning calligraphy. The nibs are too wide and too much ink flows out of the pen, making it impossible to get a crisp and thin upstroke. The ink is also watery, so the effect is a dull and muted pigment. These pens are good for people who are not interested in perfecting a calligraphic hand, but may prefer a bit of an old fashioned look to their correspondence. Do not purchase if you are looking to perfect your calligraphy skills. It will lead to frustration.
Reliable, wonderful for beginners and experts alike

Having used Sheaffer fountain and calligraphy pens for nearly 35 years, I've found them to be forgiving, easy to use, affordable and reliable. They haven't gone down in quality or ease of use. In fact, the click cap is an improvement over the vintage screw on type. The window showing not only color but amount of ink left in the cartridge is also a very handy feature. Over the years, it is reassuring to know that a good thing is still as good as it always was, and just a smidge more user friendly.
Ok for the price and the beginning calligraphy artist, but could be better

Decent beginners kit with pens and nibs that are forgiving for the beginner. Nibs of course are molded to the body of the holder, so they cannot be changed out, and the kit comes with a variety of colors and extra ink cartridges for more writing. The downside is that I have been experiencing leaks from my medium wide pen almost daily, regardless of how carful I am. Also, the cost is a little high for pens that are plastic and nearly disposable, while professional grade pens for calligraphy artists are cheaper. The book on the other hand is a helpful little guide to get started with a few sample beginner fonts.
