I purchased this gate to act as an additional barrier between my toddler and our fireplace. Note that this will not deter a very clever and determined child, but gives me some extra peace of mind while using our fireplace while my son is awake. It looks great and was one of the few options I could find that would fit around my hearth without taking up extra space in a small living room. The warm wood finish coordinates nicely with my living room furniture.

We looked high and low for a nice, wide gate-- should have started with Amazon and saved some time! This gate was purchased to keep our puppy out of the formal dining room. We needed enough width to cover a double doorway (doors were taken down as part of a remodeling process), and enough height to deter a young golden retriever. Mission accomplished! Love the smooth finished wood, also love that the gate sits in place and doesn't need to be anchored to the wall.

I was looking for an aesthetically-appealing, good quality free standing gate that could be moved easily and would safely serve the purpose of blocking split level side by side stairs going in opposite directions, allowing my cats to freely go up and down, while keeping the dog from doing so.The u- shape of this gate allowed for this. Using it this way did not present a dangerous situation as the as 2 sets of stairs going in opposite directions were being blocked, so the gate could not be pushed down the down side steps. . I would not consider a free standing gate if looking to block steps only going one direction. Since it was blocking a larger area, I needed a gate that would cover a large width. At it's largest width it was a bit too short (4-5 inches) to cover both of the standard size stair openings, so I just blocked one side near the wall going up with a small table. My 23lb dog was able to move the gate however and squeeze though the side, so I would only recommend for smaller dogs. The gate arrived quickly and in good condition. I feel the quality was worth the purchase price. It was easy to assemble and light enough to move easily if needed.

To contain an elderly dalmatian who cannot jump but repeatedly knocks down my other freestanding gate (Martha stewart brand, from PetSmart).
Successfully contained. I prefer to leave the middle connectors unattached, in order that I may pivot one half the gate in order to enter.
Reasonable design, but I did not have to fully extend the end pieces either and that adds considerably to stability.
Nice and challengingly high for the 50lb dog size.
Walk through gate option would be nice, but I modified as above.
Looks good with the oak cabinets and floors.
Price margin was good too - other gates this width for this height....>$200.

We bought this to keep my beagle out of my mom's room. She had leukemia and was basically bed-bound for the past few months. My beagle kept getting in her room and going through her trash (as beagles... and most dogs do).

Here is my experience:
* Kept my beagle out of the room... does what it says!
* Wood tone is very nice and matched well with my mom's furniture.
* We had to place it in a hallway that wasn't very wide, so it took up a bit of room (the only negative).
* My mom was pretty weak, and she wasn't able to open the sides of the gate very easily. However, she was able to lift it or slide it on the rug with minimal effort.
* Now that we no longer need the gate for this purpose, we have folded it up and it fits nicely under a bed. It would also easily fit in a closet.
* Great for using daily, or storing it and using it occasionally.
