Provides Adequate Light with Proper Bulbs

This lamp is a step up from the very basic, but only a small step. It has a glass shade, rather than plastic, a plus. The parts fit together well enough, with one piece screwing into the next, as all of these pole lamps do. The cord is long enough. The switch on the fixture is OK, but it is on the flimsy side, enough that I wonder as to its useful life. When assembled, the fixture stands reasonably straight, and it does not wobble or "sag" as some of the lesser pole lamps do. My purpose was to light a large room with high ceiling. I went through three LED lamps that did not work with the wall light switch in the room; there is something funky about LED lamps and wall switches. Manufacturers claimed they would work, but they did not. I went back to a lamp with a conventional socket that accepts a medium base lamp (bulb). I bought high wattage (20 watt) LED bulbs, equivalent to 100 watts, and the two of them the lamp takes did the trick. The room is very bright, for which I am relieved. The overall quality is just OK, and for the cost and the location it lives in (upstairs bedroom), it works. This is far from a showpiece for the living room that you would want the world to see.

Wonderfully bright but definitely use LED bulbs: The shades won't hold up to the heat from CFL or incandescent bulbs. I have had this for only a month and will update my review if any problems arise later. But for now it has been the best solution I could find for my small home office (spare bedroom), to keep my work area exceptionally bright without going to the trouble of getting overhead lights in the room (electrician, permits, etc.). It is bright enough with the top light that I haven't had to use the side-arm light. With the cool LEDs, I don't worry about the shades (if there were a model with glass shades, I would have been willing to pay more). Base & pole are reasonably heavy and stable. Minor point--Would also be nice if each shade had a separate switch.

Works well and as advertised, and looks nice, too. I like the "shiny" black color, better than a more typical flat black finish, and the pole is tapered downward which gives it an uplifted and more elegant feel. The main advantage of this lamp is its ability to handle 2 x 150watt incandescent light bulbs, which put out a lot of heat as well as light. My previous lamp came with a cheap plastic lampshade, whereas this one comes with a good quality albeit basic lampshade made of glass, so it won't eventually become brittle and crack as plastic will. It has Low and High brightness settings but it is not continuously dimmable, not a problem to me. And it was very easy to put together. Everything about it seems well-designed.

I bought 2 of these lamps because they looked great online and the reviews were decent. When I received them and put them together, one of the lamps was crooked. They looked nice with my decor, so I figured I'd overlook it. Then I realized that they do not give off much light, even with a strong bulb. The shade really blocks out a LOT of light. Still, I figured they would do and it would be more of a hassle to return. Shortly after the return window expired, the knobs to turn the lamp on and off on one of the lamps came off. We tried to get it back on, but the plastic knob was completely stripped. We tried to continue using it, but it was EXTREMELY difficult to turn and it hurt our fingers. Frustrated, we switched the placement of the lamps (we hid the crooked one in a more unused corner). We used the broken lamp every once in a while since we had to use a tool to turn it on. Well, as of today, it does not turn at all. If you want to turn it off you have to unplug it.
TL;DR: both lamps were defective and conveniently broke after the return period. Do not recommend purchasing.

Nice quality product. Bought two of threes for the house and they feel sturdy. I took a star away for the obnoxious packing. I appreciate that the products arrived undamaged but the sheer amount of styrofoam and little syrofoam babies will take forever clean. It's stuck on the dogs and everywhere else and I was careful opening them, especially the 2nd one. These foam balls will cause a lot of angst before they continue their journey to an ocean to kill wildlife, but I digress. There are much less ridiculous ways to package and deliver these undamaged. The color of the shade didn't match as intended (my error) but it matches closer with the light on. Since I purchased two, I included one turned on and one off for reference.
