I've been a big fan of Magnum boots for over 10 years. I took a change on these Bates due to the overwhelming positive reviews, and the need for non-metallic safety toes.
To note:
I wear 15/15.5/16 depending on fit
Wide shoes when possible, so I'm not cramping up my toes.
I don't have stinky feet. It's never really been a problem for me. They sweat a little bit, but don't stink. Just something relative to keep in mind if you DO have stinky feet, your "well-wicking" results may differ.
These are by far the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn.
I have a pair of Magnum 15E boots, and they just don't compare.
The GTX boots are light, sturdy, well cushioned, well-wicking. They keep my feet warm in the winter, and cool enough in the heat. They have better traction than I've ever had in any shoe. So far, their only fault is not having better traction on solid sheets of ice during winter. But really, solid ice? I wouldn't expect any better unless it had spikes on the bottom.
I'm an electrical engineer, and work in manufacturing plants for long hours. The boots are amazing.
I stopped wearing my DC Skate shoes in favor of these boots.
The toes are slightly tight, so I don't wear crazy thick construction socks, and I have no problems.
They're more water resistant than my magnums by far.
Zip construction is sturdy. The inside flap sometimes gets in the way, but just needs to be tucked in a bit. This may be more of a problem if you lace your boots tightly.
TL;DR
Buy these.

I have worn a few different Bates boots before, including the Zero Mass 8.0s, and the side zip quarter boots, so I had an expectation of how these would fit and feel. When I opened the box to find that I had accidentally ordered the composite toe boots, I was about to fill out the return form. Just for grins, I tried them on, and was surprised by the fit, especially in the toes. These boots lack the typical unforgiving cramped toe space of protected-toe boots. The sock liner has enough cushion that I haven't yet placed a set of orthotic insoles into the boots. The goretex liner has plenty of cushion as well, and is warm enough for the near-term weather we had in MI last week. The only big downside so far is that with the composite toe, I have already scuffed the leather on the outside of the toes from kneeling down on a scene. The other boots I've had without toe protection have been able to bend against the ground and didn't scrape so easily.
I work on an ambulance in a busy urban area, so these boots, like my previous ones, will see plenty of wear, tear, and abuse. I'll edit this review if I come across any issues with durability, but so far, these will be my go-to boots for winter service.
Pros: comfortable, warm, side zip allows easy on-and-off, good tread pattern, plenty of ankle support.
Cons: Easily scuffed boot tips, shoelaces look and feel cheap, soles are slippery when new.
