This kit is by far the best red beans and rice from a package"¦. And tastes just like the real thing.
My only suggested tweak is to cook up a half pound of thinly sliced smoked sausage (as directed), and in the skillet add in 1/4 of a chopped sweet yellow or Videlia onion and celery stalk- while you're heating up the contents of the package in a medium saucepan. Brown the meat and turn off the heat. As the Zatarain mix comes to a boil, add in the skillet contents, to include the cooked fat. Or substitute the fat with olive oil if you wish.
As the package says, bring everything to a boil in the saucepan then turn it down to a simmer while covered, stirring occasionally. (Very important). Package says simmer 25 minutes or until rice is tender. I do so for 35 or 40. The results are amazing. Hard to believe it's a mix!
