Posting this during the overly hyped ice storm on Jan 15 2017 from KCMO (midwest). I pre-treated my driveway and front sidewalk/steps last night before any freezing precipitation hit. To do an experiment, I did not pre-treat my deck. This morning when I awoke and checked the pre-treated areas out front - driveway and sidewalks - NO ice - just wet. Had freezing rain coming down and so I safely and thinly spread a bit more. My deck had a glaze of ice. From my door, I began spreading the pellets thinly and then stepped out - awesome traction. I was able to walk on what I had thrown down and do my whole deck safely, while my pooch walked right beside me - we never slipped once. No color residue from the pellets out front and even as I type this, somewhat of a white residue on my deck, which is also dissipating at the same time and in a matter of minutes the ice on my deck is slushy and melting. I checked my dog's paws when we came back in - no pellets stuck, no residue whatsoever. Noting that so far, we are NOT experiencing a MAJOR ice storm as predicted, but I do have ice! Highly recommend this product.
A necessity when you have pets

I have two mini pigs and cats that I worry about with the regular ice melters that are out there. Safe Paw has been great to use for the last couple of years for us with no problems. It may not melt a lot with below zero temps but I know that my pets are safe from the salt problem and that matters much more to me!
Just okay.

Bought to use on back deck to keep a clear, non-icy area to take the dog outside without harming surrounding plants. Works well as long as the temps are above about 20 degrees. Below that -- not so much. Unfortunately, we get below the 20's too often. Does last more than one season if used judiciously.
It's also nice to know it's safe for our pets

Our concrete guys told us to use this on our colored and stamped concrete walkway to prevent pitting and damage that other salt can cause. It's also nice to know it's safe for our pets. FYI, it did kill the grass along the border of the sidewalk, but I imagine most salt does that. It came back after some water and warm weather this spring.
Better than I ever imagined it could be!

This stuff is magic! Not only is it safe for animals -- my #1 priority -- it is easy to use, safe for the yard, walkway, driveway, etc., dissolves/disappears with the snow/ice (no cleanup!), and you can pre-treat an area before bad weather hits and it will be as clear as if the snow/ice never happened. Also, it doesn't take a lot to get great results, so this pail will last well through the winter where I live (NC). Note that it is difficult, if not impossible to find this in stores (at least where I live), so order it before you need it. I waited too late this winter and had to deal with a pretty bad ice storm using only a shovel, kitty litter, and a lot of frustration. Never again!
