Much better than the disposable $3 jobs you find at big box stores. Better even than the expensive Craftsman unit this one replaces. This tool is sturdy and well-made. Powerful magnet, too.

Somehow ended up with this magnet years ago in my home toolbox...I think it was my Dad's. Anyway I was about to buy another Harbor Freight pickup tool when I realized just how handy this one had always been. The articulating head lets you fish around in areas you can't see. Length is good - fits easily along the edge of a toolbox drawer and, well, you don't know you'll need the length until you need the length...
Just tonight I was replacing a headlight and dropped a battery hold down nut, which quickly disappeared under the battery tray. Was able to simply sweep this around underneath and retrieve it with ease.
Not sure if its obvious or not, but the extension/telescope is only two pieces (shaft and sleeve). On my original at least, they are hexagonal, which seems to add a bit of rigidity. Never worried about it bending in half when mindlessly compressing like a lot of the cheaper multi-stage telescoping pickups. Laatly, in the years that I've owned and use this, I can't ever remember having to loosen or tighten the flex head joint. Always stays just stiff enough to stay in place, lose enough to maneuver.
