Great craftsmanship, I can see it will need some breaking in to use in a trousers but it is a fine product for jacket use already. Heavy duty.
nice little leather pocket holster for ppks
boogie man•April 3, 2013
I like this holster, would buy again
Pros:
- I like leather galco holsters OK, they are usually sufficient quality and more affordable, and in stock. This is no exception.
- It's made of horsehide like nice custom holsters usually are. Horsehide is sweat resistant and more durable and long lasting
- The leather and stitching looks of good quality
- It has a good design - it's mostly square-shaped and is compact (not bulky or overly long like an uncle mike's nylon)
- It's square on the bottom which will help your pistol remain more vertically oriented in a pocket.
- The leather's rough side is out (smooth side is inside) which means holster will stay in the pocket better when you go to draw it, and the gun will slide out easier with smooth-side inside
- there is a hook shape in the leather below the grip, which you can make catch against your pants to aid in removing the pistol without also removing the holster
- the holster is roughly fit-formed (hard to get horsehide to fit very well) and is adequate there; I like that it has no metal parts, wires, or lips in it to rust
Cons:
- it might be fine with a Ruger LCP or other lightweight pistol but with the walther ppks it's a heavy little pistol and the grip tends to offset the weight to one side and cause the holster to shift a little (not remain perfectly vertical). If the holster was a bit wider it would help with this
- related to holster width, the square profile of the holster isn't big enough to completely hide the shape of the grip. The grip extends about 1" beyond the holster so it may be a little bit visible in your pocket (doesn't look like a wallet would). Also the square profile is very thin on the edges, but about 1" in the middle, so that also makes it more visible of a 'gun in your pocket' shape, but certainly not as obvious as carrying a gun in your pocket without a holster :)
In summary the main benefit of this holster is it looks good, sleek, it's leather, it's quiet, it's quality, it keeps the gun oriented in your pocket better than a plain holster would. While it does allow for a quick draw I don't think that is something that any nylon holster can't offer once it's broken in. Overall good buy and I would buy again... would enjoy it more if I had a ruger lcp, i'm sure
