Excellent, as long as it fits
Robert M. Seater•January 27, 2018
This fit into my regular ceiling sockets, and it produces a LOT of light that feels very much like sunlight. Just one lit up a medium room with no windows. The base fixture is a regular lightbulb socket, but the bulb itself is huge and sticks up and out. It won't fit in a lot of lamps with shades, but if it does fit I highly recommend it.
BUT I love how bright it makes my dark apartment

You will not find a lamp shade big enough to cover this baby. It's legit the size of my head. BUT I love how bright it makes my dark apartment.
Great light, helps when there is not much sun, like in Alaska

Here in Alaska "Happy Lights" are a much needed thing with the lack of sunlight. If you live in Alaska your sleep pattern gets all messed up with the lack of sun. Get in front of these right when you wake up and throughout the early day, you will naturally re-set your sleep cycle. These are large bulbs, so be careful. They should place a penny or pencil next to it so you can see how big it really is (like in the old science books we had as kids). I have two on the high ceiling in our living room, which puts off a ton of light and we love it!! Wakes you up and makes you feel like you don't live in a cave!!
Reliability remains an issue; but...

These are bright, daylight bulbs with an advertised 10,000 hour life -- except, out of four bulbs, one failed in 3-1/2 months after about 106 hours (average about 1 hour per day since delivery). I'm waiting to see if the other three follow suit and die prematurely. These are expensive bulbs to fail so soon. Therefore, only three stars.
30 Apr 2015 Update: Shortly after I wrote the original review, and for reasons I cannot explain, the bulb that failed started working again when I discovered the bulb base had come unsnapped from the base which holds the electronics (little tabs were not properly engaged in the slots). I was able to realign and reassemble the bulb. Since then, the bulb has been fine. For the price of these bulbs, it's frustrating that one was not properly assembled and, again for reasons I can't explain, worked intermittently until properly assembled. That said, I will upgrade the rating from three to four stars. I would buy these bulbs again because they throw a lot of bright daylight color light which does a great job of lighting up my shop.

Accurate bulbs

I have 2 of the 85w bulbs along with 4 of the 45w. They are essentially what I expected. I use them for video and also as general lights when I need high light levels.
The only problems I've had are my own fault. For example, I let a friend use one of the 45w for a bit without my supervision and he ended up using it over the stove. Obviously, it didn't last very long. I explained to him what happened and he probably won't do that again. The other is that I expected more light, but after actually calculating the lux (brightness) that I would get it turned out to be a bit brighter than supermarkets (less than 1000 lux). It also seems that with higher color temperatures I need more light for it to not seem "cold and stale." I will likely buy more bulbs and use reflectors to push the light levels up more.
The color rendering I get with video on a calibrated screen looks very much like what I see in person, so these are definitely quite good for that like everyone says. If you are looking for a lot lot lot of brightness, be smart about it and consider using reflectors and bulb placement rather than just buying more bulbs.
