It's nearly impossible to cut a straight edge like the factory edge. For this reason, you can clearly see where it pieces together. The carpet tape included is not strong enough. Within two hours, the front edge was already untaped from our brick. Bummer

I feel like it is worth the money for the piece of mind this provides. I have a one year old who has recently started walking and I feel much more comfortable with this covering our stone hearth. The taupe color looks great with our stone and light gray walls. I have had a little trouble keeping the tape firmly together and the front flap lying flat even though I followed the directions carefully. Overall I'm happy with this purchase and it looks good enough that it doesn't bother me (and I am very particular about things looking neat).

It is a really great cover for the fireplace hearth. The only thing was on the instructions it said it's supposed to come with two kinds of tape. We received the carpet tape but not the double sided tape. The middle flap is up a little do I'm going to have to buy something myself. Besides that, it is a great covering. Way better than just the corner cushon protecters.

This product comes with very specific directions. We messed up in cutting the pad because we didn't mark both sides when cutting. Other than that, it does the job.
There is a double sided tape that was provided but it does not peel. Pretty useless. Although the foam is pretty heavy and doesn't lift easily, I'd rather secure it to the hearth just in case our daughter grabs onto it in order to lift herself up.

This is one of those things that you take forever to decide to purchase. I have 3 boys ranging from 2-5, and they love to run around and around and around my living room. Then one starts spinning in circles until they are dizzy and fall and then they all do it. Or, they reenact a scene where someone falls down and Mama makes it better. All in all, they. are. rough. boys. And they were doing this stuff dangerously close to the stone fireplace which is about 1 foot high and 7 feet long. No matter how many times you make them stop, this happens about once a day (usually when I'm doing dishes).
We had a near miss one Saturday, and I hit the buy button here and got it shipped. A couple of weeks later, while I was doing the dishes, the boys were playing and one got dizzy and knocked the other down. Both hit the fire place! But other than the fact that they got a little thump, there was no blood, no one needed stitches, and Mama could make it all better. If this padding wasn't there, I would have had a very interesting and difficult evening. I'm grateful for this type of produce.
It does stay in place, even without the carpet straps. The kids like to sit on it, but it doesn't move around at all. I will be honest, it is not the best looking thing, but it doesn't bug me to tears either. It is a temporary moment in time that I will have this but the $100 cost or so was cheeper than an ER visit. It really is worth pulling the trigger on and getting this area of your house safer.
