Love it!

Looks great! The seam doesn't look perfect, you can see the line of course, but could cover with pillows blankets and decor.
I feel much better about my toddler walking around the fireplace now!

We love this product. Really lowered the anxiety when our young child played near our fireplace. They have since fallen face first into the pad. Certainly didn't enjoy the experience but there is no permanent damage!

The tape that sticks the straight run's front fold is not great. This comes undone and the front lip shoots out. I'm going to try super glue or something like that next.

Regardless, this pad has saved out child's life many times in the last month or so. The ivory looks like a slick slab of concrete and I wouldn't say unnoticeable, but it's blends in well and looks nice. Also it's a bit more comfortable to sit on than stone.
Saved me from a day of unnecessary drama!

This is one of those things that you take forever to decide to purchase. I have 3 boys ranging from 2-5, and they love to run around and around and around my living room. Then one starts spinning in circles until they are dizzy and fall and then they all do it. Or, they reenact a scene where someone falls down and Mama makes it better. All in all, they. are. rough. boys. And they were doing this stuff dangerously close to the stone fireplace which is about 1 foot high and 7 feet long. No matter how many times you make them stop, this happens about once a day (usually when I'm doing dishes).
We had a near miss one Saturday, and I hit the buy button here and got it shipped. A couple of weeks later, while I was doing the dishes, the boys were playing and one got dizzy and knocked the other down. Both hit the fire place! But other than the fact that they got a little thump, there was no blood, no one needed stitches, and Mama could make it all better. If this padding wasn't there, I would have had a very interesting and difficult evening. I'm grateful for this type of produce.
It does stay in place, even without the carpet straps. The kids like to sit on it, but it doesn't move around at all. I will be honest, it is not the best looking thing, but it doesn't bug me to tears either. It is a temporary moment in time that I will have this but the $100 cost or so was cheeper than an ER visit. It really is worth pulling the trigger on and getting this area of your house safer.
Worth the price.

In the never ending quest of baby proofing for a very mobile 8 month old I had to find something to wrap the fireplace stone with. The mountain of pillows, although very classy when company came over, was not working anymore to protect the babe from smacking his head off the rocks. . I found a blog where the person recommended the foam play mats but the top stone on our fire place hearth comes out about an inch so I needed a topper of sorts. Amazon lead me to this pad. The construction does take a little time but I didn't find it to be too daunting. As others mentioned, you can tell which side I cut, but unless you are really looking it's not that noticeable. The pad works really well, is comfortable to sit on, and looks nice. The baby has even tested it out by smacking his head off it it a time or two, rolling down it, and slobbering all over it. My big kids lay all over it and it wipes clean very easily. I was hesitant at the price but now that we've had it in place a few weeks it is definitely worth it. Nice quality, good directions, and comes with everything you need! I also sized it to include the little foam mat pieces so no one bust their heads on the river rocks. I found the foam mats on Amazon as well.

After a friend told me how her younger sister jumped off of some thing and slammed her teeth into the hearth when she was about four years old, then spent the next several years with no front teeth until her adult teeth came in, I was delighted to find this foam thing. I've tried whacking my hand on the fireplace with the phone and this stuff is really absorbent. It's a little weird to cut it to the right size, but if you measure and use a sharpie on the back and a box cutter it's pretty easy. It seems to absorb really high impacts very well and will probably save you a trip to the ER. At least that's what I told myself when I bought this $126 product. Good God. But I'd rather have that than a broken skull. Two thumbs up.
