While this isn't a carbide tipped awl the self retraction is the cat's meow from the standpoint of awls. Especially for someone who need to carry in their shirt pocket and not always in a pocket protector plus do a lot of bending over. Well worth the money and I'll buy again, when needed.

Excellent for marking measurements on plastic and soft metals like not-yet-etched copper clad pc boards. The tip is very sharp and very fine. I don't anticipate it would hold up at all to hard metals; that's not what it's made for. But it's perfect for my use. Very nice aluminium ink-pen-like body with retractable awl, comfortable knurled grip, makes very precise markings. The only thing negative I can say is that when it arrived the tip was very slightly bent. I could feel so by running my fingernail from the base to the tip, and it would "catch" on one side at the very tip. However, I was able to easily straighten it back, and it is still straight and sharp after several uses. Highly recommend.

I've never bought a scribe before so when I looked at the size, since it is mislabeled, I thought it referred to the length and not the thickness. 0.6 is very different than 0.06. Now I get to buy the .09.
