Very well built but I have an issue

This feeder is made very well. This is my 2nd Droll Yankee feeder and I recommend them and will buy more. This feeder is too large for my purposes as it is wide and extremely heavy. I have to hang it from a Shepards hook and it falls over if it is filled to the top. I an only fill it to about 25% only. That's my problem not theirs. The goldfinches DO come to the feeder and even sing a very pretty song. I also bought the large bottom tray and like it as it catches most of the seed that the birds fling around. Now I just need to find a smaller feeder that the tray will work with. This was an expensive mistake ON MY PART. Just be sure you pay attention to the dimensions, weight etc. now I am off to look at smaller feeders.

Highly recommended. Of the three different finch feeders I have, this is my favorite and the favorite of the goldfinches. They must like the perches and feeding ports. As it is a Droll Yankees product, it is high quality. They stand behind their products; some part fell off another kind of feeder due to squirrels, and when I called to purchase a replacement part, it was sent to me free. Being able to remove the bottom makes cleaning much easier. (I purchase two and so always have a clean one to use.) Other feeders of this size can have six ports, but I don't find it to be an issue. The birds will come back and get their fill. Or, if you have many birds coming to eat, then get two or more feeders!

I filled it with thistle/nyjer seed. Birds love it. My kitty watches the birds and makes weird chirping and clicking noises. The birds poop and spill seed everywhere. Such is life. The bird feeder feels very solid. I have no doubt that this will last a long time.
Birds Love It but Squirrels, Not So Much

Droll Yankee makes the best bird feeders. Long lasting and the birds love them. We fill this one with fine-chips of sunflower seeds and the finches, woodpeckers and many other birds love it. Although the squirrels try to get the seed, they can't get beyond the metal plates.
Ease Of Cleaning Is The Key

We've had several thistle "Nyjer" feeders over the years. Our birds are fickle and don't always hit the feeder on a regular basis. The last time this happened, the thistle went bad, which meant all those old-style ports needed a thorough cleaning. What a hassle. This style allows the ports to be easily removed. There are three options to choose from on Amazon. 2 port, 4 port and 6 port. We went with the 4 port because we also have a sunflower chip (shelled sunflower seeds) feeder next to this. The finches will eat either one, so they don't "stack up" on the thistle feeder.
