Got this to replace a 4 inch that was stolen, used it for the eclipse with a filter and it worker very well, really like this unit.

Awesome starter telescope. You can clearly see the profile of Saturn with it and it is great for looking at the moon. The spotting scope is good and functional however it does lose its alignment if the telescope is bumped such as when transporting it (I wouldn't expect much more given that it is included). The eyepiece is good as far as I can tell. My main complaint with the telescope is that the pads in between the base plates of the dobsonian mount don't do much in terms of reducing friction. I would be willing to pay slightly more for some captive ball bearings that roll inside a track. All things considered this is a great telescope for beginners.

This thing is amazing. I'll admit I'm no astronomer but I spent a good deal of time researching scopes and finally decided on this one. It seemed the best scope in the price range I had available to spend and I am far from disappointed. The views I can see using this telescope are incredible. It's easy to set up and surprisingly easy to use.
On a completely unrealated to star gazing topic I'd also like to add that I love the way it looks. I feel like I have some kind of space cannon in my living room and that amuses me :)

What a wonderful first telescope

What a wonderful first telescope. It made one family very happy Christmas morning. Assembly of the base was a breeze. Everything you need, including the tools needed for assembly, were packaged with the base. The scope is fully assembled only needing the eyepiece and easy spotting light to be attached. Although the telescope and base are quite large, there is a handle on the base which makes carrying it a breeze. The base is heavy enough and low to the ground that with small children in the family there is no fear of them knocking the telescope over. In no time, the telescope was assembled and ready for use. Imaginations were soaring over what wonderful sights were going to be seen in the new year.
