It's just the pads gued onto a plastic 'table' basically, but the pads are very durable and I'm not afraid of hitting the pads or plastic too hard.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these! My daughter is a high school percussionist and beats on anything and everything with her drumsticks. At times, DRIVES US CRAZY! We hate to tell her to stop as to not encourage her to practice, so these are a blessing for both parents and kids! Now she can practice all she wants and we can tolerate letting her!! The quality of this practice pad is great. So sturdy and sized as a normal set of quads to allow for true practice. Definitely worth the money! Best Christmas gift we bought our daughter. She even put this on a stand and it works great! It's only the end of January and we have already gotten our monies worth. You can't go wrong with this item!
