Excellent product, recommend 2-person assembly

The stool is delivered in pieces, and the printed assembly instructions are a single diagram illustrating the various pieces and screws and bolts coming together. So if you have some 3-D visualization skills and are reasonably handy and have a helper, the assembly will go smoothly and pleasantly and take about 15 minutes. The package includes 2 allen wrenches: A regular L-shaped wrench, and a straight wrench that can be used as a bit in a power tool (highly recommended). Either wrench can be used for all the screws and bolts. We are delighted with the appearance and solid feel of the assembled stool. It will serve as a footstool for a deck chair.

I love this stool, particularly it's height; I don't feel like I am scraping the ground when I sit on it. However ..ASSEMBLY IS A BEAR ..Gather together the four long boards; pair together the 2 long boards with the metal sleeve in the center hole; next you now have the 2 top rails and the 2 bottom rails; attach w/4 long screws the NARROWER of the 2 bottom rails into the slots of the 2 boards with the metal sleeves in the center holes; attach the WIDER bottom rail into slots in remaining 2 long boards. Now slide the smaller of the two U's that you have assembled to the inside of the larger U. Use the short screws (fed from the outside in and feeding the plastic washer between the two U's). Now take the two top rails (one wider than the other) and feed the short rail through the sleeve on the shorter width of the canvas seat, and of course the longer rail through the sleeve of the wider side of the canvas seat. Position the narrower of the two top rails over the top of the narrower U, and the wider of the top rail over the wider U ..and attach with remaining 4 long screws. NOTE FOR ASSISTANCE IN ASSEMBLY: Coat all the long screws liberally with a dry bar of soap (it will largely assist you with ease of assembly); insert the short end of the L of the Allen Key into the screw head and turn the screw with the long end of the Allen Key. On some of the lower rails you may want to use a power drill to go the last little bit into the unit. If you still have trouble try calling the Sales Department for Byers. I encountered outstanding assistance from one of the sales reps. ENJOY.

The stool is beautiful and very well made, and they now have good assembly instructions on line. If your stool came with black and white assembly instructions, DON'T USE THEM! Those instructions fail to mention that none of the cross pieces are interchangeable, which led me to assemble the stool incorrectly and damage the wood a little. If you don't get the four-color directions, make sure you go on the web site to find the improved assembly instructions. They have fixed the issue, but the fact that they sent out the inadequate instructions does not reflect well on the company.
