works great, but buy your own rope before installation (1/4" diameter, 75 feet)

This pulley works great--the mechanism works like curtains where you pull the cord one direction to raise/lower, and pulling the cord the other direction locks it in place. Once it's docked there's actually no pressure on the wall mount at all. Installation was relatively easy, the instructions were easy to follow, the system itself is easy to use (I've lowered and hoisted my kayak a couple dozen times now), and the "buckles" that some people complained about are nowhere in sight--apparently they've revamped their product so there are no buckles at all.

My only complaint is one other people have mentioned--the rope starts to fray after just a dozen or so uses, so I'd recommend replacing it before you even get started. What you're looking for is **75 feet of 1/4" rope**. Some people say the rope is too long, but it's about right for me--once I've lowered my kayak to the floor I can still reach it, but the end is about waist level. Ceiling height obviously makes a difference, and mine are maybe 15' high, so my kayak can dock on the ceiling above my van without hitting it. So adjust the length as needed for higher/lower ceilings. (Don't adjust the diameter or it won't fit through the locking mechanism.)

Great little pulley system to stow a kayak. Works well, looks good. Only gave it four stars because a couple of small issues. One being that I sheered off two of the bolt heads that hold the brackets in. Very well could have been my fault but I just feel they shouldn't have twisted off so easily. The other being that the instructions are a little vague. The picture diagram is the most useful part of the instructions. The connecting rope between the two sets of hooks is another point. I have a crazy high ceiling in my garage and because of that, I had to use my own rope to go inbetween rather than cutting a length from the provided rope. That said, you need to make sure the knot behind each eye hole is fat, otherwise the knot will be pulled tight enough to be pulled and then you have a kayak falling on your face. Learned that from experience.
Also works for ladders and SNOW PLOWS!

I need a pulley system capable of hosting my snow plow off the garage floor and out of the way. Couldn't find many systems that could support up to 100lbs with confidence. This system is heavy duty and fairly simple to install. I did however drill a few too many holes in my ceiling because I wasn't as accurate finding the center of the joist beams as I'd hoped. I also broke a few bolts by tightening too much into the ceiling, but a quick trip to the Depot for some replacements at $0.32 each put me back in business. The supplied rope isn't the highest quality either and I'm concerned long term about the rough metal edges of my plow cutting into the ropes. If you're securing a canoe or bike or ladder however, I don't think this would be a concern for you. In all, I'm happy with this system. It seems versatile enough that you could pretty much hoist anything up, even a large child.

Overall good product, issue I had was in regards to kayak length I think. I was intending to use this to hang my 10' fishing kayak, but the straps provided just continued to slide off the ends when trying to lift the kayak. Assuming its due to the length of the kayak and the distance the ceiling mounts are required to be mounts apart. I ended up having to make my own straps and going through the scupper holes. If the straps came with a type of rubber coating on them it might work much better and prevent the slippage. Don't really want to hang my kayak 10' in the air above a car or anything really and chance it falling.
SOLUTION FOR GARDEN CART STORAGE
Kirin36✓ Verified PurchaseDecember 3, 2016
Bought this to suspend a large Rubbermaid industrial garden cart from the ceiling of our garage. It took up a great deal of space on the floor and was used infrequently. This was the ideal solution! I had previously hung my wife's bicycle with another lift product, which I was very happy with. However the cart is much heavier than her bike and I needed the lift pulleys further apart than the seat and handlebars were on the bike lift. I attached a 2x4 through the sheetrock to the ceiling joists with 1/4 x 4 inch lag bolts spaced 12 inches apart. I first attached the lift hardware to the 2x4. I then drilled ONE hole through the sheetrock and into the joists. Next, I drilled a center hole through the 2x4 and put the lag through with about 1 inch exposed. I then drilled holes at 12 inch intervals from the center lag to the ends for the rest of the lags. It was much easier to just insert the center lag into the hole in the sheetrock and secure the 2x4 to the ceiling with a power driver making sure to leave it a LITTLE loose. I then measured the alignment of the 2x4 so it was straight and marked the ceiling through the holes I had drilled on the 2x4. A few minutes to drill the marked holes through the sheetrock and into the joists, installing the remaining lags through the 2x4 into the joists, tighten all the lags and up went the cart - a neat, easy and cheap solution to the storage of the cumbersome cart. Be sure to use washers where the lags enter the 2x4 for safety! While I could have used smaller lags than 4 inches, with something that big overhead I preferred to err on too big! i used the straps included with the system to go under the cart and attach to the hooks.
