I'm unable to work on it myself -- old guy with wishful thinking -- but i'm hoping one of the sons of our son, a USCG Lt, Commander, will take it on.

This kit is for the modeler who has at least a few years building ship models; however, a beginning RC modeler will find it a great starter kit. Very accurate with the exception that the CG did away with the LORAN antenna. Decks have 100% non-skid haze grey, masts, stanchions, bull nose, reel and working deck gear are spar (tan mixed with white). I substituted black tubing for the black bumpers Not a fast boat, but powerful as it is designed in real life.

This kit was given to me by a retired US Coast Guard officer to build for him to display and to operate.

It's made of die cut plywood, balsa planking and aluminum deck fittings. Everything is included to build the basic hull and superstructure. To build this as an operating model, separate hardware is needed for the drive and control systems. It's a very challenging, but rewarding project. If built carefully, it will be an impressive model boat.

The construction and assembly instructions are brief and simplify some complex steps, but are mostly accurate. The die-cutting is less than perfect. You'll need to dress up most parts to improve the quality. Building experience, attention to details and the ability to improvise will help to make this a successful project.
