and this one is by FAR the worst of the three
C. ArthurMay 20, 2017
I have bought three epilators, a $30 Philips HP6401 one, the most expensive Braun one, and this one, and this one is by FAR the worst of the three. It gouges big scratches into the skin, and while they don't bleed, they are deep enough to hurt for several days. It does a very poor job of pulling short hairs, so when they start to regrow and you want to get rid of them again, it is almost useless, leaving your legs scratchy with hairs. When going around my knees, the gears tend to skip and grind, which is no doubt going to ruin the gears before very long.

The Braun sucks because it can't be used plugged in, which means charging the batteries several times per job if you have a lot of hair. It also gets scorching hot, which will ruin the motor and batteries over time. It does a good job pulling hairs, but not really much better than the $30 Panasonic, which doesn't get so hot and can work when plugged into a cord. The Phillips wears itself out after a while, but while it works, it works well, and is my recommendation.

Avoid this, it is a terrible epilator, especially for the price. Don't buy electronics from off brands like this, stick with known brands.
Experience Talking Here: A Lesson on Epilating
P.S.March 28, 2017
First of all, I have been epilating for about 15 years, so I have good experience. The benefits to epilating over waxing is that the wax has to pull your skin and the hair. The epilator only has to pull your hair. If you've never done this before, let me assure you, it WILL HURT the first few times, and then it will be nothing. I don't know how your skin gets used to it, but it does! As long as you continue to do it in a particular area. I never have razor burn from epilating. When I used to do it on my legs, I got ingrown hairs, because the hair can't push through my skin when it's not bluntly cut off at the surface. I don't do my legs anymore, because of the courseness of my hair.

So, if you're going to rip the hair out of your skin you want to do as much at once as possible. This device has the highest number of tweezers I have found. Also you don't really want a cordless one, because you need the power to turn the heads as quickly as possible without losing any juice during the process. This has a large head, but I have used it on my entire body. This is actually the second one of this model I've owned. The first one lasted about 3-4 years, before the motor finally started to die. It's the only epilator I've bought a second time. The others lasted about 1-2 years and weren't as effective.

Don't expect to do this and forget it for a few weeks, however. For me epilating is like shaving, because it doesn't keep me hair free for any length of time. Your hair grows in cycles, so whatever is there today and you remove, new hair will be there tomorrow to take its place. So use this great tool daily to stay smooth!

Don't usually write reviews, but this thing is great! Fought with facial hair all my life and used a razor daily! Someone told me to buy an epilator and eventually hair will come back less and less. Tried laser, electrolysis, - everything over the many years and paid lots of money to professionals.

It says to only use the Emjoi on a single hair on your face at a time, but I use it gently all around my chin and lip and it does a fantastic job. Does it hurt...yes but the pain gets less and less each time you use it. Actually electrolysis hurts worst. It's well worth the money and my skin looks great! I love the fact that there are no batteries to mess with! I can go two weeks now without using it and it gets to be less and less time now between uses and I just go it several weeks ago. I'd recommend this to any of my friends!
Excellent product

It arrived in a few days, was well packed, and in a new box.

This works great. It IS Painful. Today is week 2, and no stubbles. I used it on my legs, and underarms. With the electric shavers, I usually get stubbles in 2 days.

I wanted to be able to use it on my face, but it is not recommended, and has no attachment for the face, like some do. I am over 50 (Latina) and have so much hair on my face and chin, now. They suggest to use just one side or the other, but this is very difficult. It is a powerful, loud motor, and does work wonderfully on the legs and underarms.

I did it in small sections and took breaks, because of the pain. After use, the skin on my legs was red, splotchy and very sore and tender for two days after. I think (hope) next time it wont be such as shock to the skin.

I am glad I bought this. I never have used razors / blades, only electric shavers my entire life. This is one step better, since the hair takes longer to grow back, and is thinner each time.

Update March2017: It is still very painful for me, each use, but well worth it. The hair grows back so slowly, about three-four weeks. It grows back finer, and much less, so I am not ashamed to show my legs ever anymore! It is the first time in my life I have felt "feminie" regarding my legs! I am so glad I purchased this! I wish they had these when I was young. I spent my entire life being ashamed of my hairy legs. Shaving just made the hair grow faster, thicker and longer.

I can wear skirts, shorts and bathing suits now anytime, not having to shave first.

It is also very nice to have the cord, rather than recharge, so I can complete all hair removal without having a battery run out. It doesnt take very long anymore. The first two times took the longest. I do not get the red splotches or bumps after use now, I have probably only used it 5 or 6 times since I bought it... but it is still painful, as I am very sensitive (hence the thick hair) .

One thing to seriously watch out for , are areas where there is longer hair, (like the face next to the hair line), and any fabric clothes, (panties, bra, tshirt) because I have gotten it caught a couple of times. It eats fabric, makes incredibly loud grinding noise, and I turn it off immediately and unplug, then rotate the blades and the fabric threads come out easily.

Update 2.10.2018
I sent in the unit for repair, it got caught in fabric as I mentioned above, and the loud grinding noise I discovered was a broken plastic gear. They sent a brand new one. I did have to call twice, to get it.

I still use it on the entire leg, underarms and buttox areas. The pain is finally minimal if I do it weekly or bi weekly when the hair is still very fine, sparse and short.

I also now use it on the face, very very carefully, staying away from my hairline. It works great!

Highly recommend!
Handy little thing works well

This is the second epilator I bought, and I liked it much better than the first. When I opened the package, I found the epilator, the cord, the carrying bag, cleaning brush, exfoliating pad, and the manual all included. The epilator fits comfortably in my hand and is easy to maneuver, even with the cord (which has to remain attached during use and was not a problem.) It's kinda loud, but no more than other epilators I guess, and actually a little quieter than the first one I tried. The fact that it has so many tweezers makes it go more quickly than an epilator with less tweezers. It does hurt a little at first, but I have pretty thick and coarse hair, so it's much better doing it this way than waxing. I used this everywhere but my face. Yes, my whole bikini area, legs, arms, and underarms. I use the little brush every few strokes to wipe it out, go slow and don't press hard or you'll end up breaking hairs off instead of pulling them out. Also, wiping the tweezers with alcohol in between uses seems to help keep them gripping the hairs nicely. And everything fits right into the little carrying bag when finished!
