I believe I was lucky....my hat arrived in an amazon bag, in the US Mail and surprisingly was not damaged! The hat looks awesome...it has the look of an Australian slouch hat but the benefit of not being made of wool. I ordered a puggaree separately on Amazon and now the hat looks top notch. For 32 dollars I have zero complaints.

This hat fit me well and is exactly what I paid for. That is the key. My grandfather had this same style hat for 20+ years and when he passed away a few years ago it was given to my cousin, but this hat is slightly different. My mom told me he used oil and wax to waterproof it and it has lasted many years and many, many, many adventures. This hat does not appear to be the same as that one as far as quality go, but only time will tell.
The hat does not come water proofed and I am planning to use wax or oil to do the job. It does not hold it's shape at first, so don't plan to pack it until you break it in a little bit. More to come after I put the coating on it.

This would be a great budget hat if you found it in your local shop. Unfortunately, the hat doesnt have anything to protect its shape during transit. It would appear that the top portion is made of cardboard lined with cotton. Once its crushed, theres no fixing it. The box Amazon shipped it in had plenty of space for the hat to be secure....which means it was crushed before they sent it out :-(....Nice one Amazon....On a side note, i also found that the hat only has a snap button on the left side as shown in the picture. Not both sides. Im returning this sad story of a hat as soon as i finish typing this. I suppose i'll have to visit a local hat shop after all.

Edit : I ended up exchanging the hat for another to give Amazon another try. Unfortunately, the second hat arrived just as bad as the first. I feel the damage cant be avoided since Henschel doesnt have any kind of stiffening insert to protect the hats shape. After 2 tries I feel justified in giving this product 1 star.

Just got this and had really hoped it would fit. I'd purchased this same hat in an XXL and it seemed too big.

I've got a massive head (24 1/4", about size 7 3/4). I'm also a ginger with not much on top so I take my sun hats seriously. More often than not, a size XL doesn't fit me well. And one-size-fits-all, to me, is like a sick joke. I was able to get this hat on and it almost fit but it's tighter than I prefer. I was also worried about any shrinkage which would have exacerbated the problem. And and since I work outside in the sunny, inland Northwest, I need good shade protection but it's gotta breathe well. So this hat will go back.

Soooo....why 3 stars for the hat when it was simply too small? Well, like a seemingly large number of additional reviews, my hat arrived crunched and really wrinkly. While i normally expect my hats to endure a bit of abuse while working on the river, backpacking, surviving in a car full of kids and dogs, I felt the damage was unacceptable.and the wrinkles really looked pretty permanent, like folds in a piece of paper - you can unfold the paper but the crease remains. What's worse, the damage appeared to have incurred before shipping (the box was intact). And, on principle, I prefer to be the one to damage my stuff. Maybe that's why this hat was the cheapest offering I could find.

FWIW, the seller provided a UPS return label for free and provided a quick refund so kudos for that.

With all that said, my other hat (same one different color, larger size) seems great so far.

My husband wanted to love this hat - it was lovely right out of the box.

But the Large was a bit too large, and the crown developed creases/wrinkles (that will not smooth out) with only a few hours wear, as if it were lined in cardboard. The wrinkles are more pronounced in person than the image indicates.

The first image is on unworn hate. The second after a few hours wear in the backyard.
