I've tried some of the cheaper gaff tapes, but never again. I will never buy anything but Pro Tapes Pro-Gaff. This stuff sticks well, but also comes off easily, without sticking to itself, and causing a huge mess with your cabling. I use it mostly for productions in a church building, sticking A/V cables to short pile carpet, and hardwood gym floors. Don't cheap out on your gaff tape. This is the only kind you should buy. I use both the 2" and the 3", depending on my needs. The 3" is great if you are taping down multiple cables and want them covered the entire way. A single or double run of something thin, like CAT5 or coax should be fine with 2" tape.

I love Gaffer's tape!
A quality roll of Gaffer's Tape sticks tight, removes cleanly and tears easily during application and this tape delivers all of that.
I use this tape as part of my company's video department to secure cables, tape down drapes and even temporarily remove wrinkles from the blouses of on-camera talent. The knowledge that the tape will pull off anything without leaving a messy residue encourages lots of use.
Although it resembles duct tape (which it most certainly is not!), I also use this tape at home for dozens of non-duct related uses like hanging posters in the kid's rooms, reinforcing a broken shovel handle and patching a mattress cover.
I have ordered this tape in several sizes and colors (orange is great to cover extension cords across a hallway).

My son became familiar with gaffers tape in the theater department in high school. When he went off to college, he said he needed gaffers tape to fix his favorite belt which was falling apart. He loves the stuff and claims it is FAR superior to duct tape. I looked for it everywhere before I found it at Amazon! I bought the 2 inch black Pro Gaff Tape.
